Some time ago now, Churro Ice Cream Sandwiches hit the scene in Disneyland’s Downtown Disney. And the hopeful cry immediately went up for their arrival in Disney World. Well, it only took four years, but….

All the ingredients are in the name: hand-scooped vanilla ice cream is sandwiched between two churros-turned-cookies.

The churros are sprinkled with plenty of cinnamon and sugar surrounding the dough.

But there are some differences between this version at Magic Kingdom, and the ones that hailed from Disneyland’s Downtown Disney.
First, the churros at Sleepy Hollow are NOT warmed prior to serving. And, considering Florida’s heat, this is probably a good call to counteract the potential for fast melting.

On the downside, though… our churros were a bit stale (an issue I’ve been coming across at Sleepy Hollow with several other menu items for a few months, honestly).

The outer part was a little difficult to bite, and even to cut into. But we’re on the right track… cinnamon-y fried churros served up with a cool, creamy scoop of ice cream!

Now, something to note: the Churro Sandwich has replaced the Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich at Sleepy Hollow.
So, just know that you can still find those ice cream cookie sandwiches at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor if that’s what you crave in the Kingdom. Plus, for just a little extra change you can top your Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich with Peanut Butter sauce (or caramel. Or hot fudge). Sooo…. that’s a definite pro of getting them at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor.

But be warned. This will be a must try when I get there in August. I LURVE me churros and with the ice cream, I may just have found awesomeness. Will let you know! My fam may stick with the Plaza for the cookie sandwich. we may have to get both and compare! I had this wonderful thing the other day. It was delicious. Too bad the Florida heat melted it so quickly. Oh well, we drank what was left. Make sure you have napkins, baby wipes would be better though.

Ok, so I tried one this past weekend and I was a little disappointed. While the ice cream was delicious and smooth and creamy, the churros were stale and hard and very chewy. It wasn’t what I was expecting, but not completely a miss.

Ana, churros typically use all-purpose flour, so I would not expect them to be gluten free. Double check with cast members!
The churros they sell at Walt Disney world are gluten free , but they look different from the churros that they use for the sandwich . That’s why I wanted to know if those are gluten free as well . ?
Ana, as far as I know the only gluten free churros at Disney World are at Nomad Lounge, but I’ll look into this further! You’ll want to double-check on the Churro Ice Cream Sandwich; they’ll have an ingredients binder for you so you can confirm.
