D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event is a biannual expo where Disney announces major news for its theme parks. In 2026, it took place from August 14th-16th, and it brought us all kinds of updates!
We got a sneak peek of several new theme park expansions, and this Monstropolis update caught our eye!
During the 2026 D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event experience, Disney had this giant Monstropolis bulletin board on display, and we noticed a few new things.
For starters, we got a close-up street view of the Glob Theater. Isn’t she a beaut? Disney has since announced that humans will be invited to attend a NEW show in the Glob Theater titled “Welcome to Monstropolis.” This is also the name of a NEW Randy Newman song.
The monsters are going to introduce humans to Monstropolis, and show just how similar monsters and humans are. The hosts of the show will be Mike and Sulley. According to Chris Beatty, Vice President, Walt Disney Imagineering, “Sulley has been working on a small, homespun show, but Mike – ever the showman – has a few surprises up his sleeve that he thinks will bring down the house. Hopefully not literally.”
Also on the giant bulletin board was art of the full street from the Glob Theater to apartments that Disney fans will walk down one day! There are a few Post-It notes with Monstropolis locations, including Mike and Sully’s, Tony’s Grossery, and Art’s Gallery. Could these be stores that we’ll see in Monsters, Inc. land?!?
Thus far, Disney has indicated that there will be a store called the Scareporium.
One of the Post-It notes had a message with “Hidden City Cafe” written next to a checkmark. This is an in-universe coffee shop that Mike and Sully walk past in the Monsters, Inc. movie. It’s unclear if/how this might appear in the land.
Disney has, however, confirmed that a NEW Quick Service spot called Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza will be part of the land. And next door, the Monsters University Alumni Club will open “its doors to human visitors eating at Archie’s.”
We also got an additional look at the upcoming restaurant Harryhausen’s. This is the iconic sushi restaurant from the movie, and ever since we saw it pop up on concept art, we’ve been begging for it to be real. It seems like a lot of elements from the movie are being pulled right into the land. There’s new concept art of the spot along with two stills from the Monsters, Inc. movie from inside the restaurant.
Disney has since revealed more about Harryhausen’s — which you can read about here!
And, of course, we know that the MAJOR attraction in this land will be the hanging door roller coaster. It will be just like the scene in the movie where Mike and Sulley climb through the door to help find Boo.
The new Monsters, Inc. land will open next year, in 2027! BUT Disney shared that this will be a phased opening. The coaster will NOT open initially with the land, but while work continues on the door coaster, parts of Monstropolis will open to guests in 2027.
We’re so excited to see what other announcements Disney will have for Monstropolis in the future.
