When it comes to serving up snacks for tea time, you can’t beat a classic scone!
The scones are one of the highlights of Afternoon Tea at the Garden View Tea Room at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. If you can’t get to the Grand Floridian for tea time, now you can make these classic scones at home!
Here’s the official Disney recipe for Classic Scones from the Garden View Tea Room!
Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons margarine
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 3 eggs, beaten
- 1 1/4 cup milk
- 1 cup golden raisins
Recipe
- Preheat oven to 425°F.
- Sift the dry ingredients (except the raisins) together in a large mixing bowl. Using your fingertips, work the margarine, and shortening into the dry ingredients until it resembles a coarse meal.
- In a separate bowl, combine the beaten eggs and milk, then stir into the flour mixture just until the dough comes together. Fold in the raisins.
- Lightly flour your workspace, then roll the dough out to about 1/2″ thickness. Use a 2″ round cutter to cut about 40 scones from the dough. Transfer to a lightly greased baking sheet and bake about 12 to 15 minutes, until light brown. (For slightly sweeter scones, sprinkle extra granulated sugar on top before baking.)
Serve immediately with Devonshire cream or butter and jam.
That’s it! Enjoy your warm, delicious scones…and maybe invite us over for one or two while you’re at it. 😉

Don’t do it, guys! Trust me, I’ve tried this recipe before and there is just too much baking powder in the recipe. It’s like it burns my mouth with how intense the baking soda is. I don’t know what the perfect amount is, since I think I overworked my dough a bit too, but yeah. Expect to make adjustments.

It may be that it should read, 3 teaspoons instead of tablespoons of baking powder?
DFB Sarah says
Susan, my understanding is this is directly from Disney, and other scone recipes I see do ask for baking powder in the tablespoon(s). Not having made them myself, I can’t say for sure, though.
Susan says
Oh, thank you for that. Maybe I’ll give these a try at some point.
