It’s always been a little bit tricky to get onto the Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance ride in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The ride usually uses a virtual queue, which fills up just minutes after it opens each day at 7AM and 1PM. But today was the first day that it switched to a standby queue instead, with guests lining up in person rather than joining an online queue. So what do the crowds look like for this super popular ride?
When we first got to Hollywood Studios at 9AM this morning, there were BIG crowds on their way to the standby line at Rise of the Resistance.
First thing in the morning, the standby line extended all the way out of Galaxy’s Edge and to the gift shop for the temporarily closed Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular show.
There were lots of Cast Members out directing guests to the end of the line and showing them where to go.
We hopped in line and checked the wait time, which was at 180 minutes when we joined the queue.
The line went around Echo Lake and towards the entrance to Galaxy’s Edge. We’re getting closer!
A Cast Member had an “end of line” sign for the ride ready, although it didn’t have the wait time posted on this sign.
We thought we’d finally reached the actual queue area for the ride…
…but it was a little deceiving because the line then snaked back and went through the Muppets area of Hollywood Studios.
We did eventually make it to the ride’s actual queue area!
There was tape on the ground in some parts to show guests where they should form the line.
At this point, we checked the standby wait time again and saw that it was up to 220 minutes. This was at about 9:30ET this morning.
Once we were in the actual queue, we got to check out the cool decor for the ride before we made it in.
It’s a cool queue to be in, to see all the Star Wars inspired landscaping…
…as well as the inside decorations.
And finally, we made it on! The line moved much more quickly than we were anticipating and we were watching the pre-show after about an hour and a half. We will have more details on our experience soon.
And we will continue to monitor this process in the coming days. Stay tuned for tips and tricks for getting on quickly and easily!

Wow, this seems like it was a very bad idea. They probably are doing it on purpose just to force people into buying Genie+

I had a friend wait 2.5 hours in line to ride this with his family. He said it was worth the wait. My family rode it when it was a virtual queue and we have decided not to wait in line to do it again. That being said with so many people who are in line the other ride lines seem much shorter. So overall I call it a win (for anyone, not riding ROR)
