Disney World’s 50th anniversary is almost here, and California Grill in Disney’s Contemporary Resort is getting a special update for the celebration.
Beginning on October 3rd, California Grill will be hosting a special 50th anniversary dining experience, with a new, limited time three-course 50th anniversary experience. Reservations just opened today, and it was an ORDEAL, full of glitches, so here’s what you may have to deal with.
For a limited time, California Grill will be serving a prix-fixe menu for $89 per adult and $39 per child. The menu is inspired by the year of 1971, which is the when both Disney World and California Grill (known previously as Top of the World) opened. Reservations opened today, so we visited the My Disney Experience app, where we were able to select California Grill.
We were taken to the Reserve Dining screen, but when we clicked Find a Table…
…Disney sent us to the waiting room. The waiting room screen kept randomly refreshing too, adding to the frustration. Eventually, when we reached the final reservation screen, many dates and times were already gone.
So reservations for California Grill ARE open, but it might not be easy to get the reservation you want. We tried snagging a reservation and waited in the virtual queue for about 2 hours this morning. We’ll keep you updated if anything changes, and keep reading DFB for more Disney World dining and reservation news and tips!

I tried to get into the website at 5:45 this morning and was able to get into the website but as soon as I clicked on dining or CA Grill I was put into the waiting room (on several browsers). I then downloaded the My Disney Experience App thinking I could get a reservation that way but it brought me to the website too. It’s good to know that this isn’t the norm for the app. This was of course after all the craziness trying to book a Space 220 reservation earlier this week!
I was finally able to get a reservation, not at the time I had hoped, but not bad. This is one of the restaurants my 89 year old father wanted to eat at for my parents first trip in 25 years, so I am so excited we will be going.

Lisa, I’m so glad to hear this!

I had the same thing happen to me on Thursday when I tried to book the Rose & Crown Fireworks Dining package. I was stuck in orbit beginning 5:10a and over an hour later I was finally able to get out of it, but by then, it was too late.
