UPDATE:Â This technique no longer works to its full extent. To learn about the recent changes to Disney Genie, check out this article.Â
Whew, Disney Genie has certainly brought us a LOT of news this week.
We’ve been breaking down the free offerings of Genie, the Genie+ Fastpass replacement system, and the not-included Individually Selected Attractions. Add in a bunch of nuanced rules about how the system works and things have gotten pretty complex. You might’ve heard that you can only select one Genie+ Lightning Lane at a time…but that’s not totally true.
There’s actually a way to book more than one Genie+ Lightning Lane at one time due to the complicated 120-minute rule. Basically, when booking Lightning Lanes, you can book a new one after using your first one OR after a 120-minute cool-down.
So, if you book a Lightning Lane that’s more than two hours out, then you’ll be able to book another one while your first Lightning Lane is still active.
For example, say you book at 5PM Peter Pan’s Flight Lightning Lane at 10AM. You would then get a 120-minute cool-down. So, at 12PM, two hours after making your selection, you can make another Lightning Lane choice while keeping the Peter Pan’s Flight Lightning Lane. This would mean you have two active Lightning Lanes in your itinerary at once!
Once your 120-minute cooldown has passed, the first Lightning Lane you booked exists separately from the new Lightning Lane reservations you make. So, Peter Pan’s Flight sticks around and you have a new Lightning Lane slot that follows the same rules as when you initially booked; to book another, you’ll need to use your new Lightning Lane or wait through another two-hour cool-down.
We’ve also noticed that times can overlap with this facet, unlike with the Fastpass+ system where you couldn’t have them at the same time. Keep in mind that Genie+ will only allow you to book the next available return time for a ride, so you can’t select only late return times to stack all of your rides at the end of the day.
But, if later times are all that’s available you’re not out of luck, you just need to wait for that two-hour cool-down period to keep booking more. We were able to stack three Genie+ Lightning Lanes since our first two were booked for later time slots, we just had to do the 120-minute wait twice.
In theory, you can stack as many rides as there are two-hour time blocks in a park day, but we’d still recommend grabbing earlier Genie+ return times so you aren’t stuck waiting on those cool-down periods. You can get a lot done with Genie+ in two hours!
So, yes, you can stack Lightning Lanes, but it’s not necessarily something that will help you get more done in a day. As always, keep an eye on DFB for the latest Genie tips and updates!
