Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Is the Most Streamed Premiere on Disney+

We’ve been gearing up for MONTHS for one big show on Disney+, and now it’s finally here!

Star Wars fans around the world have been waiting for the release of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and we’ve been pretty pumped too, thanks to the trailers, the new merchandise, and all the hype that the show got at this past weekend’s Star Wars Celebration event. But the fanbase for the show is most evident in the statistics, and its premiere is already breaking some big records!

Disney+ announced on Twitter that Obi-Wan Kenobi is officially the most-watched premiere of an original series on the streaming platform. This record is based on hours watched during the opening weekend.

The show premiered on May 27th with the first two episodes released. The series as both a sequel and a prequel, bridging the gap between Star Wars films 1-3 and 4-6. It follows the adventures of beloved Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi as he’s hunted by the Empire and his former padawan, Anakin Skywalker (who is now Darth Vader).

It’s the show that prequel fans have been especially excited for, considering Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christiansen are returning to reprise their roles. McGregor describes the feeling of the show as very cohesive, saying “because Deb directed them all and it’s her singular vision throughout, it did feel like we were just making one movie.” We can’t wait to watch the story play out in the coming weeks!

It’s a huge milestone for Disney+, but we have a feeling this upcoming month is going to be a big one for the streaming platform anyway. Along with more episodes of this series, they’ve also got the premiere of Ms. Marvel scheduled for June 8th and Baymax on June 29th. On top of that, there are several other titles arriving that subscribers will want to check out!
