It’s summertime in Disney World, and you know what that means — random downpours and unbearable heat.
But that doesn’t mean your visit to the parks has to be any less fun! With proper planning, you can still have successful trips in even the worst of weather. That’s why we bring you lists of what you need in your park bag, what you’ll need with you when it rains, our favorite items to cool down with, and much more. Proper planning is going to be essential this next week, as Florida will be hitting dangerous levels of heat.
According to The New York Times, the heat index in Florida over the next week will hit dangerous levels. It’s recommended that people drink fluids, stay inside, and avoid the heat. Of course, that’s not exactly easy to do if your Disney vacation is during this period of time.
But, as we said before, proper planning can assist you in staying safe and having a good time. The most important thing to remember: STAY HYDRATED! With that in mind, be sure to take advantage of free water! Disney World has multiple places where you can grab free cups of cold water. Check out the list of free water locations here, and be sure to visit them often to grab water during your trip.
Additionally, there are also water bottle stations for those with reusable cups and bottles, providing even more locations to find free water. We have tons of information on water bottle stations here, including where to find them, what they are, and how they work!
If you’d like, you can also grab a misting fan, as they also help you cool down. While Disney World has misting fans available for purchase, they tend to sell out on hotter days. With that being said, we recommend just buying your own beforehand, just in case Disney’s misting fans are sold out during your trip. We provided some alternatives you can find online here! You can also grab a bladeless neck fan on Amazon (these are GREAT in the heat). Check one out here.
Disney also sells cooling towels, which are super useful. Honestly, you can never have too many ways to cool down, so definitely take advantage of any cooling items you come across. You can buy them ahead of time on Amazon as well — here are some that get great reviews.
Frozen treats are also one of our favorite ways to cool down! Luckily, there’s no shortage of options to choose from, with Dole Whip Day, Disney Springs’ Flavors of Florida, and summertime treats offering pleeeeenty of cold options during this upcoming heat wave.
And, when in doubt, head inside! There are air-conditioned areas all over the parks, including shops, restaurants, and other buildings. Indoor attractions like Carousel of Progress, Hall of Presidents, and Journey into Imagination with Figment all offer a great break from the heat.
And those are only some of our favorite ways to cool down in the heat. Be sure to listen to your body, take breaks when needed, and stay as cool as possible! Can we get Disney to add the water locations, bottle and water cups on the Disney App?
FL-Dad says
1.) Always have a water source.
2.) Drink often, even if you’re not “thirsty.” (alcohol will dehydrate you faster)
3.) If you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated. Drink more.
4.) Water is good on a hot & humid day, but the more you sweat, the more electrolytes are leaving your body. Drink sports drinks like GatorAde, PowerAde, etc.
5.) If you feel nauseous, light-headed/dizzy, you’re in serious danger of going down with a heat injury. Drink more immediately, preferably in the shade, and get/use icepacks behind your neck, under your arms, or on your forehead.
6.) If your peripheral vision goes grey and fuzzy, call out for help; you are about 30 seconds from passing out. If/when your vision becomes a smaller and smaller circle, you’re about 10 seconds from passing out. GET HELP before you pass out.
During periods of bright direct sunlight, wear a hat that covers the back of your neck as well as your head. If you’ve ever had heatstroke, heat exhaustion, or passed out from dehydration before, make sure you either have someone with you to help you if you start having difficulties from the heat, or someone knows where you are (if not in public). Most of all, if you feel yourself feeling strange or about to pass out, don’t be afraid to ask for help, or even call out for help in a crowd. Heat injuries are nothing to be bashful about, or to take lightly. Heat can kill you. I’ve even seen people pass out from heat exhaustion in the New York winter because they were wearing too many layers and exerted themselves too much. I hope this little overview helps.

This heat must be everywhere because today we have a 105° heat index up here in the mid Atlantic area. I can’t imagine what its like in Florida, Texas, California and Arizona, etc.

I know this will never happen but let’s have some fun with it. All animatronics will be equipped with super soakers.
