You might find yourself drenched in sweat in Florida, but the pumpkin-flavored treats tell the story of a different season. It’s…FALL!?
Pumpkin wreaths are up in Magic Kingdom, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is back, and Halloween treats are starting to arrive. We actually grabbed one of the NEW Halloween treats available in Magic Kingdom and it turned us ORANGE. But was all of the food dye (and mess) worth it?
Introducing the NEW Oh, My Gourd Cupcake! This thing is one of those “gotta get it for the Instagram” treats for SURE. The treat is made of a pumpkin spice cupcake with cinnamon cream cheese icing finished with dark chocolate ears.
This particular cupcake is over at Main Street Bakery and is one that’ll be available during regular Magic Kingdom park hours, as well as during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
If you want to try it, it’ll set you back $6.29.
But is the cost worth it? Well, there are a few things you should be warned about before getting it. The pumpkin spice cupcake itself has a LOT of that spiced flavor (not “hot” spicy, but filled with spices and flavors of fall). You can really taste the nutmeg and spice in it. We would compare it more to a spice cake than a pumpkin cupcake, so keep that in mind.
You could taste a hint of the pumpkin, but it wasn’t very strong. In fact, we kind of wish there was MORE pumpkin in this one! It’s ironic that a pumpkin-shaped treat really didn’t taste all that much like pumpkin.
The cupcake itself is a little on the dryer side, but it’s pretty good as far as cupcakes go. The cinnamon cream cheese icing is gooooooood and fluffy. It really carried through that cinnamon flavor, but in the best way possible.
The buttercream on top is quite sweet. But our favorite part by far was the dark chocolate on top in the form of little ears! They melt in your mouth and add a great flavor balance to the treat overall. We wish there was actually more chocolate in here!
Overall, if you’re looking for a cinnamon spice cake cupcake, this is a pretty decent pick. Plus it’s pretty adorable. BUT if you’re looking for a strong pumpkin punch, you like your cupcakes to be very moist, or you don’t like cinnamon, this is probably a “skip” for you.
If you do get this treat, be WARNED. It takes NO prisoners when it comes to mess and orange dye, so be prepared with wipes and napkins!
