What’s the most unique souvenir you’ve ever bought in Disney World?
There are plenty to choose from — for example, we love the silhouette portraits you can pick up in Magic Kingdom. But the personalized ornaments are really cool, too! You can even get a pair of Mouse Ears with your name on them. But one of the most unique souvenirs involves…turning yourself into a Na’vi?
Over in Disney’s Animal Kingdom is Pandora, a land based on the Avatar movie that features humans using technology to create “avatars” of themselves as an alien species known as the Na’vi so that they could study those people and their culture — this is also the premise of the popular Flight of Passage ride.
And Disney World just brought back a machine that lets YOU become a Na’vi (sort of) in Pandora! Inside the Windtraders gift shop, you’ll find the Avatar Maker.
The machine scans your face and creates an Avatar Na’vi for you based on what you look like. You’ll get a Na’vi Avatar figure that looks just like you! Here’s what one of them looks like:
If you want to make an Avatar figure, you can do so for $79.99 (and Annual Passholders can use their discount on this souvenir as well). However, you must be present to create the figure — a photo won’t do.
The scan can replicate pretty much all of your facial features — unless you have freckles. We were informed that Na’vi don’t have freckles. Na’vi also don’t have eyebrows, but for the sake of the figure not looking weird, we were told they add eyebrows. Also, Na’vi generally only have 8 toes and 8 fingers, but the figure you get will have 10 each. So it’s really like a human-Na’ve mix that you’re creating.
If you’re looking for a unique souvenir to take home from Disney World, this is certainly an option. And if you’re an Avatar fan, remember that the movie is back in theaters just ahead of the release of Avatar 2.
If you’re looking for more souvenirs you can buy in Disney World, we’ve put together a list of the things we don’t regret buying here.
