It’s happening, people!
After years and years of waiting, TRON Lightcycle / Run is finally opening in Disney World. The new coaster opens to guests on April 4th, 2023, though some previews were already held that gave many guests (including us) an up-close look at the ride, its locker system, and a FULL ride through. Disney previously shared that the new ride would utilize a virtual queue once it officially opens to guests, and now we have details on exactly how it will work!
TRON Lightcycle / Run is opening with a virtual queue instead of a regular standby line. We’ve seen this happen with other ride openings in recent years. Luckily, we’ve got all the information you need about the virtual queue for TRON Lightcycle / Run right here. Thanks to DFB reader Joe — @schreiberjoe on Instagram — for finding this information!
First, to join the virtual queue you’ll need to use the My Disney Experience app, so be sure to download the app, set up your account, link your tickets, and make sure everything is set up properly BEFORE you visit.
Guests will have 2 daily opportunities (plus 1 additional one on select nights!) to request to join the virtual queue — the first will be at 7AM, and the second will be at 1PM.
Guests trying to request to join the virtual queue at 7AM do not have to be inside Magic Kingdom, but they DO have to have a theme park reservation for Magic Kingdom in order to join.
If you’re trying to join the 1PM virtual queue, you have to be INSIDE Magic Kingdom. So, you will essentially need a theme park reservation for Magic Kingdom either way, as you can’t park hop from another park until 2PM.
Remember that you can only enter the virtual queue ONCE per day during regular park hours.
And there’s a SPECIAL additional sign-up time for select guests on certain days. An additional chance to join the virtual queue will be offered at 6PM on select dates when Extended Evening Hours are offered at Magic Kingdom.
Keep in mind that the Extended Evening Hours perk is only available for those staying at a Deluxe Disney Resort, Disney Deluxe Villa, and select other resorts. These are only offered on select days in Magic Kingdom for those guests who qualify.
If you do qualify and you’ll be in Magic Kingdom on one of the participating dates, you’ll be able to sign up at that 6PM time and you do NOT need to be in Magic Kingdom to request to join the queue at that time.
You will need valid admission to Magic Kingdom for that day and a Park Pass for Magic Kingdom OR a ticket or Annual Pass that has the Park Hopper option.
TRON will also be available for Individual Lightning Lane purchase through Disney Genie+ — which is a paid way to secure your spot on the ride.
We’ll be keeping up with all the latest news ahead of TRON’s opening day, so be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more updates and tips!

I was just wondering this though… say I get a boarding group# at 1 p.m. but still haven’t checked in at 6p.m. and I’m able to try and get another one at that point b/c I’m doing extended evening hours…will it allow me to try for that second group? Or will it reject my attempt b/c it’s waiting for me to clear the first group I collected?
