There are lots of exciting things going on in EPCOT.
We’ve got loads of different construction projects happening in the park, and Disney recently revealed the surprising outcome of yet another one. Over in the Japan Pavilion, where Tokyo Dining used to be, a new restaurant is taking its place, and we got a peek at what construction is looking like.
Inside, the former Tokyo Dining area has been closed off, and we’ve got a barrage of construction walls up there!

Right now, all construction is happening behind the wall; but because this is so COMPLETE a construction site, we can assume there are some big changes happening to the dining room at Tokyo Dining.
We can still see where one of the podiums is, but the rest is walled off for now (you’ll be able to see if if you’re heading to Teppan Edo for some hibachi)!
For those who may have missed the announcement, though, EPCOT’s Japan will be opening a brand new restaurant this Summer! Tokyo Dining will be transformed into Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya, a table-service restaurant offering a “festive dining experience in a sharable Izakaya style.” Japanese Izakaya, a casual pub-style restaurant, typically serves a variety of small dishes meant to be shared, and we can expect to see a similar concept here.
Now there WILL still be fresh, made-in-house sushi here, as was the specialty of Tokyo Dining. But we’re kind of thrilled, honestly, to have a more casual feel and possibly more casual FOOD! Disney has given a sneak peek at the menu already — YUUUSSSSS KARAAGE!!!! — and we think it’s gonna be a great addition to the pavilion.
We’ll be sure to keep an eye on the progress of this new restaurant, so stay tuned to DFB!
