When it comes to drinking around the world, most of us “start left” at EPCOT’s World Showcase and head straight to the Mexico Pavilion.

La Cava del Tequila

There’s a good reason for that, though. Mexico is home to La Cava del Tequila, a bar that’s so popular even celebrities often frequent this spot. Some celebrities have even created special drinks for the bar. Well, we’re trying a NEW drink from La Cava del Tequila, and this one even snuck in a Breaking Bad reference. 

So here’s the backstory: Dos Hombres Mezcal was founded by Breaking Bad stars Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston. The two celebrities actually visited La Cava del Tequila recently! They were even serving up drinks. Looks like a great time, right?

As much as we WISH we could enjoy a little drink with Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul in EPCOT, the closest we can get right now is enjoying a little Dos Hombres in their honor. That’s where the Crystal Inferno comes in. It was made in collaboration with the two actors, so, yes, we have a feeling that “Crystal Inferno” was a nod to Breaking Bad (but don’t worry, all the ingredients in this cocktail are legal — no real crystal in this one).

The drink is made with Dos Hombres espadín mezcal, Alma Finca orange liqueur, clarified lemon juice, spiced nectar, with a pepper on the side. Yes, this is a smoky drink, and although our reporter isn’t usually a fan of smoky drinks, this one won us over. It’s smooth with a gentle, smoky taste.

The pepper gave our drink a little extra heat with a low, slow-burning flavor — it definitely puts the “inferno” in Crystal Inferno. Both the lemon juice and nectar offer a subtle counterpoint to the heat. If anything, the Crystal Inferno reminded us of a spicy, smoky vodka.

You can try it right now at La Cava del Tequila; get it to-go for $21.30 or pay $30 to drink it in-house. You can also get it with a La Cava Sphere to take home for $70.
