If there’s one thing we love here at DFB, it’s a Disney World LOUNGE!
Lounges are like the hidden secret of Disney World dining — all the delicious eats of a sit-down restaurant with the laid-back atmosphere of a bar or quick service spot. They often have some of the best menu items across property, and you don’t need reservations to dine in them! Recently, one lounge changed up its menu, so you know I had to stop by to check out the new eats and bring you a full review.
For this review, I’m taking you along with me to Scat Cat’s Club — Lounge! This spot is located at Port Orleans Resort — French Quarter, inside the main building, and it serves Louisiana-inspired cuisine.
We’ve had some really delicious eats here in the past, but with some menu shakeups, will it be just as good?
Atmosphere
Scat Cat’s Club — Lounge is located right next to Scat Cat’s Club — Cafe (I know, super confusing naming situation here!). While the cafe is open most of the day to serve beignets, the lounge is only open starting at 5PM.
Right at 5, I was able to walk in and pick a seat from an empty restaurant. The seating here is casual — a mix of tables with chairs and lounge chairs.
There’s a stage in the middle of the club for a jazz band to perform, but they weren’t there during my visit (they only perform on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays). There’s also a small dance floor off to the side.
You can order at the bar, or you can be seated and have a server come to your table. It’s a great vibe for a relaxing evening after a long park day!
Now that we’ve taken the tour, let’s get into the menu.
Menu
Since it’s a lounge, there’s a vast beverage menu, including an array of specialty cocktails and draft beers.
You can order many of the cocktails found at other Disney World restaurants here, as well as the Agave Garden mocktail.
But what was I there for? The EATS! There are four new items on the menu — the Andouille Nachos, the Gumbo Poutine, the Spinach and Artichoke Dip, and the Shrimp Beignet Po’ Boy.
I do have some bad news about the menu as well — they removed the Scat Cats Beignets with dips that were previously on the menu. Now, your beignet options include classic Mickey beignets or the Baton Rouge Beignets.
Eats
For my meal, I decided to get three of the four new items. I ordered the Andouille Nachos, the Gumbo Poutine, and the Shrimp Beignet Po’ Boy. Look at that spread!
I started out with the Gumbo Poutine so my fries wouldn’t get soggy. This dish is $12 and topped with gumbo, cheese curds, and cheese sauce. Sounded delicious to me!
And honestly? THIS is what poutine is supposed to be like, my friends! These fries were loaded in gravy and the cheese sauce was so creamy and cheesy. The cheese curds were nice, big chunks that added a squeaky and chewy textural element.
The one downfall here is that the fries were undercooked a bit. They still had some chew to them that could be a smidge off-putting. Other than that, they were seasoned with Cajun spices and had a tiny bit of a kick.
Moving on to my next dish, I had the Andouille Nachos for $13. These are topped with andouille and red bean chili, cheese sauce, trinity pico, and sour cream. The chips are corn tortilla chips.
These were loaded down and got a little toppings-heavy on the top layer, but the flavors were delicious! They also have some pickled jalapenos and cilantro on top which weren’t listed on the ingredients list but added to the blend of textures and flavors. My big warning here is that these nachos are SPOICY. (Yes, that’s spicy with an extra vowel because it needs it!)
After about four chips, my mouth was starting to burn, and I was chugging water like a sucker. The chili was soft and the chips were nice and crispy, but the cajun spice in chili kind of overpowered the other parts of the dish.
Last but not least, I tried the Shrimp Beignet Po’ Boy for $15. This is a beignet bun topped with fried shrimp, lettuce, tomato, Cajun remoulade, and house-made pickles served with potato chips. However, mine was served with fries on the side, so it’s possible they were out of chips at the time.
The fries were the same ones that came with the poutine, and like the poutine, they were a smidge undercooked. They’re seasoned with Cajun spices, so they have a tiny bit of heat as well.
But the sandwich was the real star here! The shrimp were juicy and a little bit crispy on the outside, and the lettuce and tomato really brightened up what could have been a very heavy sandwich. The beignet bun was much better than I expected because it wasn’t covered in powdered sugar…so it really just tasted like a particularly fluffy bread.
So now that we’ve gone through all the eats, what were my thoughts?
Overall
Overall, I LOVED my meal here at Scat Cat’s Club — Lounge! The atmosphere was relaxed, the service was great, and most of the food was spectacular. The poutine was particularly delicious to me, and I would definitely try that sandwich again.
I’m certainly sad that they got rid of the Scat Cats Beignets (who wouldn’t want to eat beignets with pimento cheese and pepper jelly?!), but these new menu items help cushion the blow a little bit.
Nosh or Not?
Kick back and relax in the bayou if…
- You’re staying at Port Orleans. If you’re staying at Port Orleans on either the French Quarter or Riverside sides, I definitely think this restaurant is a must! It would be lovely to come one night when the band is performing and enjoy a delicious lounge meal.
- You don’t want to make dinner reservations. Since it’s a lounge, you don’t need to plan in advance to visit this spot! When they open, you can either walk right up to the restaurant or check the My Disney Experience app to see if the Walk-Up Waitlist is available. No reservations are required!
- You love Louisiana fare. The food here is all Louisiana and bayou-inspired, so if that’s your jam, this is a must! Some of the items even have a kick to them, so those with a tolerance for spicy foods will be happy.
Keep on rollin’ past if…
- You’re dining with kids. This isn’t exactly a super kid-friendly atmosphere, with the lounge setup and the more adult-oriented menu. Your little ones will probably prefer Sassagoula Floatworks next door or a spot at Disney Springs instead.
- You want super hefty portions. Since this restaurant is a lounge, the food is served small plates-style, so the portions aren’t as big. You can order as many items as you want, but if you’ve got a hearty appetite, you may want to look elsewhere.
- You have picky eaters in your group. With some of the eats being spicy and most of them being rather inventive, this isn’t your chicken tenders and fries kind of place.
That’s a wrap on my visit to Scat Cat’s! Thanks for hanging out and stay tuned to DFB for more food reviews from the Disney World parks, resorts, and Disney Springs!
