Who’s already excited for spooky season??
Disney recently dropped a TON of announcements as part of their “Halfway to Halloween” celebration. From returning favorites to new experiences, there’s been so much spooky Disney news to take in. And among all of the recent info, there was one detail that has our imagination running WILD!
Disney Cruise Line previously announced that its new ship, the Disney Treasure, will feature the brand-new Haunted Mansion Parlor, a lounge themed to the iconic attraction from the Disney parks.
Disney has previously shared that visitors will “partake in the next chapter of the Haunted Mansion, focused on the story of a jovial captain who entered the ghostly realm after a disastrous dinner with his beloved fiancé.”
The lounge’s happy haunts will include both iconic characters from the Haunted Mansion rides at the Disney parks around the world and brand-new characters in an immersive experience with a story played on 30-minute loops.
The major info Disney previously announced already had us daydreaming about our first chance to step foot in the new lounge. But then, we spotted another detail in Disney’s Halfway to Halloween news that has sent our imagination into overdrive!
Disney revealed that there will be a “ghost fish aquarium” in the Haunted Mansion Parlor!
The inspiration for this ghostly aquarium came from an idea that was originally proposed for the original Haunted Mansion attraction in Disneyland. During the ride’s development, famous Disney Imagineer Rolly Crump proposed a creative concept for a “Museum of the Weird” exhibit. While many of his initial ideas made it into the attraction, some of the concepts remained in the vault — including a mysterious aquarium, filled with ghost fish.
More than 50 years later, Rolly’s initial sketch was referenced by Imagineers working on the Disney Treasure to create the “Aquarium with Ghost Fish” for the Haunted Mansion Parlor! According to Disney, the aquarium will “fold into the curious backstory of the parlor’s former sea captain owner.” The Captain’s crew claim he was last seen heading to his parlor for a special meal prepared by his bride. But the two seemingly vanished, and all that remained with The Captain’s hat, found floating in the aquarium tank.
Um, does that mean The Captain became fish food? Are the fish the ones recruiting new happy haunts in the Haunted Mansion Parlor?? We’re super excited (and only a little bit scared) to see how this detail plays into the story of the new lounge!
We’ll continue to be on the lookout for more news about the Disney Treasure ahead of its first sailing in December 2024, so stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates!
