The Disney refurbishment list is still growing.
January 6th is shaping up to be quite a day at Disney World. We already know that the first Monday in January will see the closure of not one but two of the resort’s more popular people-eating attractions. The Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closing for a refurbishment that is scheduled to last AT LEAST a year, with a reopening date of sometime in 2026. Next, Animal Kingdom’s Kali River Rapids attraction is closing for its annual winter refurbishment, with a scheduled reopening date of March 2025. Now, we know we can add another attraction to that list.
As Disney confirmed in mid-December 2024, the Gran Fiesta Tour will ALSO be closing for refurbishment on January 6th, 2025. According to Disney, the EPCOT attraction will be closed for just over two months, with a scheduled reopening date on March 15th, 2025.
While the Gran Fiesta Tour isn’t usually thought of as a headlining attraction at EPCOT, it is one of only three rides in the park’s World Showcase area, and its closure could put even more strain on the popular Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attractions located in Norway and France respectively.
The attraction, which Disney describes as a “gentle cruise down the Rio Grande on a dark boat ride past some of the most famous sights and cities in Mexico” featuring the Three Caballeros, technically opened at EPCOT in 2007. However, the essential core of the attraction located in the park’s Mexico Pavilion has existed at the park since it opened as El Rio del Tiempo on opening day in 1982.
EPCOT’s Gran Fiesta Tour is joining the list of Disney attractions closing for refurbishment on January 6th. Stay tuned to DFB for more on Disney World’s refurbishment calendar.

I hope Donald is not evicted to make it the Coco ride.
I love the Mexico ride but liked it better in its original form. Hate the frozen ride…so dull…boring….whole sides of the ride are black with nothing. Seems like Disney just wanted to cash in on the movie’s popularity but couldn’t be bothered making it a fun ride. This was much more fun when it showcased Norway and I also hate what they did to all the shops which now only feature frozen toys. Norway was my favorite country and I loved shopping for Norwegian xmas ornaments, woolen wear, and other nordic items. Disney ruined this country. I have motion sickness so cannot ride Remy or view their 360° film (ditto Canada). Disney seems to be throwing out the baby with the bath water in all their parks and many resorts for 2025 and even 2026. I don’t think any of these changes will enhance our visit. We go less and less each year. Very sad what they’re doing to Walt’s company….
The ride in Mexico and the Frozen rides Disney obviously couldn’t be bothered designing have been done so lazily .Either there was no money available for these rides or something else. The people that design these things are brilliant . Frozen must have made a load of money I know a lot of children are fickle but they are still with in after two and deserve more than what that ride.
