Something HUGE is happening in EPCOT right now.
Test Track has been closed for over a year, but it’s getting ready to reopen with a new theme on July 22nd. Now, we already got a preview of the ride (and Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club Members, Golden Oak residents, and Club 33 Members have been checking it out, too). However, some OTHER lucky Disney World visitors have been offered the RARE chance to ride the new Test Track before it opens! And by lucky…we mean SUPER lucky…as in maybe they need to go buy lottery tickets later.
We recently got word from a Cast Member that Test Track opened briefly last night (July 11th) and allowed EPCOT visitors to ride it. This wasn’t a scheduled ride opening, so, basically, those who were walking by Test Track at the time were lucky enough to get to ride it. We love a soft opening — you never know when you might get lucky!
Well, that happened again today, July 12th! We were visiting the Test Track area throughout the day, and the ride opened to visitors (but…not when we were there). It was open for about 20 minutes before lightning was detected in the area. And if you know what that means (it means outdoor rides are closed), it means that the ride had to close because part of it is outdoors. That might be a new record for the shortest soft opening EVER.
So if you just happened to be in the right place at the right time yesterday or today, you might have been among the very few to get to ride Test Track before its official opening date. We did the math, and there was a 2.8 percent chance of riding it today, which is LOW, so if you were one of the lucky ones, CONGRATULATIONS.
In the meantime (during the bad weather), Disney Vacation Club members are allowed inside the attraction to enjoy the queue for their early previews. We spoke with a Cast Member who told us that the queue is now open for DVC previews, but that it’s unlikely the ride will be open for anyone else today because of the backup that happened due to the closure.
In the meantime, Test Track will officially open on July 22nd, so if you missed these “windows of luck” (that’s what we’re calling it now), you can ride it on or after that date.
