Listen, I’ve been to Magic Kingdom COUNTLESS times, but when I tell you I’ve never seen construction at this level before, I mean it. And guess what? It’s about to get MORE intense.
Magic Kingdom has THREE big construction projects happening right now — Piston Peak, Villains Land, and the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment, but there’s another one that’s about to be added to the list. If you love this Tomorrowland attraction as much as we do, you’ve got to ride it in the next week before it changes forever!
Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin will close for a lengthy refurbishment on August 4th to implement new scenes, ride vehicles, and more into the attraction. That means the final day of operation for this edition of the ride is August 3rd.
A number of things are changing with this attraction, starting with the ride vehicles themselves! They’ll be rethemed to have colors in theme with Buzz Lightyear and Star Command, and will also get new video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates.
The way you play the game in the attraction is changing too! Now, you’ll use new handheld blasters to make it easier to aim and fire, which will also have an “always-on laser” that comes in two different colors per vehicle, as well as new lighting, sound, and vibration effects. And the targets you shoot at? They’ll be updated to react and light up when hit so it’s easier to tell when you’re earning points.
Finally, there’s an all-new scene being added! It’ll include a friendly robot named Buddy who will greet you and play a key role on the Star Command team. He’ll help walk you through how to play before the ride really begins.
We’re really excited to see this new version of the ride, but we know it’ll cause some more crowds in Tomorrowland, so it’s something you’ll want to keep in mind!
