Magic Kingdom is looking pretty different these days!

Magic Kingdom
A huge piece of Frontierland recently closed for good, Big Thunder Mountain is still closed for a lengthy refurbishment, and now, another popular Magic Kingdom attraction has hung up the “closed” sign. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has officially closed for a huge reimagining, and we’re taking you with us to see what has changed already!
Another Magic Kingdom attraction has closed! Over in Tomorrowland, Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has officially closed for a lengthy refurbishment so the ride can be reimagined in several new ways. The ride closed today, August 4th, and will remain closed until sometime in 2026.

It’s closed!
Over at the attraction, we didn’t spot any walls, but we did catch new signs on the doors of the attraction. The new signs warn guests that operations are suspended and to proceed to adjacent mission zones.

Operations Suspended!
It seems like we weren’t the only ones sad about this closure. Chip and Dale were caught checking out the closed attraction while Cast Members promised they would be the first to ride it once the attraction reopened. Sorry Chip, we’re sad too!!

We also hopped onto the PeopleMover to see if we could spot any changes through the windows that give you a glance into the attraction, but no such luck. The ride has darkened the windows, and they have removed the narration that discusses Buzz Lightyear.

Disney has already given us an idea of what changes are coming to the attraction. First, we know that a new scene will be added.

The new scene at the beginning of the ride will introduce us to “Buddy,” the friendly robot! He will make sure you’re prepared for your mission. During this new scene, you will be able to see some of the new, interactive target features before starting the quest to become a Galactic hero.

The ride will also have new Z targets that will feature new technology that will allow them to react and light up when hit. So now we won’t have to guess if we’re hitting the right target! The ride will also get new ride vehicles with new designs, inspired by the colors of Buzz Lightyear.

Each vehicle will also have video monitors that provide real-time scoring updates and other features. In addition to the ride vehicle changes, there will also be new blasters for you to shoot with! The new blasters will now include an always-on laser and come in two different colors.

It’s unclear when the ride will reopen in 2026, but you can be sure we will let you know ASAP! While this ride is super popular, many guests can agree that this reimagining is very needed. As always, be sure to keep following DFB for more Disney news and updates.
