Disney theme parks all over the world, just like all other theme parks, have rules that are very important to follow to keep everyone safe.
You know what a lot of these are off the top of your head — no running, no fighting, no wearing Disney costumes if you’re over the age of 14 (unless it’s a Halloween party event), among others. However, there are some truly STRANGE rules we’ve seen as well, many of them that lots of guests don’t know about. We recently headed over to Hong Kong Disneyland for the park’s 20th Anniversary celebration, and something that I often do in the U.S. parks without a second thought is ILLEGAL!
Just like the hotels in Disney World, there’s shuttle transportation you can take from Hong Kong Disneyland area hotels to the parks. It’s a much easier way to get around than worrying about rideshares or renting a car, which can be incredibly stressful in an unfamiliar country.
When the shuttle arrived and we stepped on board, we immediately went to say hello to our driver and say good morning, but we spotted a sign that had us pausing — as it turns out, it’s ILLEGAL to speak to the shuttle drivers in Hong Kong!
We’re grateful this sign was in English as well, because we’re not certain we would have caught it otherwise. It felt a little strange for us to not say hello, but we know that this sign is really more prohibiting talk that could distract the driver or negatively affect them in any way. This would include passengers getting angry at the driver and yelling, or again, just asking them questions to distract them. To be safe, though, we didn’t speak at all, because we didn’t want to get in trouble!
