SURPRISE! A new snack stand just opened at Disney World — and we didn’t even know it was coming!
Disney’s BoardWalk is home to quite a few eateries, both table service and quick service. It used to be home to a Funnel Cake Stand, but that stand has been closed for quite some time now. So, imagine our surprise when we were strolling along the BoardWalk and spotted a new menu posted on the stand — and, of course, we had to check it out and bring you our full review!
This new snack stand doesn’t appear to have an official name just yet, so we’re dubbing it the BoardWalk Snack Stand for now. On the day we visited, it opened at 4 PM, but that could change in the future since it appears this stand has only just opened.
The menu is mostly snacks like popcorn, pretzels, and ice cream, plus beer and some cocktail options as well — though we’re especially intrigued by the Saltwater Taffy Popcorn. It looks like Disney is really leaning into the whole “BoardWalk” vibes with this new addition.
For our first visit to this new snack stand, we grabbed the Saltwater Taffy Popcorn for $7.49. We were super intrigued by this! We were hoping for like fresh, cool popcorn, but instead, it was prepackaged from a brand called Popcorn Junkie (who make all the specialty popcorn for the parks — including at Kat Saka’s Kettle). We didn’t get a huge taffy flavor with this, though taffy comes in many flavors. This honestly tasted like cake batter to us, and we were able to kind of extrapolate that a little bit because the ingredients say that it has a cake batter flavor in it.
Unfortunately, the pieces of popcorn themselves are a little bit stale. They have an underlying kind of kettle cornness to them, very soft. They don’t have that kind of popcorn crunch that you get with fresh popcorn. They weren’t stale necessarily, but more like a bag of popcorn you can buy at the store. The flavor is very sweet — we found the pink ones to be a little bit sweeter than the yellow and the white ones, but they’re all coated in a kind of sugary flavor. It definitely tastes like cake batter, very vanilla-esque to it.
We also picked up the Churro with Chocolate Sauce for $7.49. Disney World churros have not been our favorite in the past, so we were interested to see how the churros were here. The churro was a very basic Disney churro — it was pretty soft and not very crunchy on the outside. There was LOTS of cinnamon sugar on this one, though — it was getting everywhere. The churro was a little bit stale and had a lot of chew to it, instead of that crispy outside with a soft inside.
The chocolate sauce on the side is the same chocolate sauce you’ll find around Disney World, and you can get it served warm or cold — we got ours warm. It was fairly runny, which made for easy dipping, and it tasted like Hershey’s chocolate syrup to us, so it very well may have been.
While it doesn’t have any significant food options, it seems like it will be a nice addition to BoardWalk Joe’s Marvelous Margaritas, Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs, and other quick-service spots on the BoardWalk.
We’ll be on the lookout for even more surprise snack stand openings you need to know about around Disney World. In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest Disney news and more!
