Attention thrill-seekers! If you love roller coasters, buckle up — because there’s a BUNCH of big roller coaster announcements you need to know about!
Roller coaster enthusiasts are in for a real treat over the next few years. Major theme parks across the country have announced new projects that are sure to bring in coaster fans from far and wide. From high-speed movie-themed thrills to next-generation family rides, there’s a lot to keep an eye on right now!
Let’s dive into FIVE brand-new coasters headed to major parks!
Galacticoaster — LEGOLAND Parks
This might be the most unique coaster of the bunch, and it’s opening the soonest! Both LEGOLAND California and LEGOLAND Florida Resort are launching Galacticoaster, an immersive indoor space-themed ride as part of the new LEGO Galaxy land at each park! This family coaster is set to be incredibly immersive, as it lets passengers design their own spacecraft with over 625 customization options. Additionally, it will feature the first-ever LEGO animatronic!
Galacticoaster will reach speeds up to 40 miles per hour, feature rotating ride vehicles, and include 4D storytelling effects via screens and physical sets. The ride is opening on February 27th, 2026, in Florida, and on March 6th, 2026, in California. Notably, this is LEGOLAND California’s first new coaster in nearly 20 years.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift — Universal Studios Hollywood
Things are about to get fast and furious on the West Coast, as Universal Studios Hollywood is launching its new Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift high-speed roller coaster this summer!
Based on the blockbuster film franchise, this ride will be Universal Hollywood’s biggest roller coaster and its first-ever high-speed outdoor roller coaster. It’ll feature high-intensity launches up to 72 mph, a groundbreaking 360-degree rotation of the individual vehicles that creates a drifting sensation, immersive storytelling, and theming that fits in perfectly with the film franchise.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift — Universal Studios Florida
Yes — Florida is getting one, too! Set to arrive in 2027, this coaster will offer similar thrills, but with a totally different track that includes “a 170-foot vertical ‘spike’ that will send riders nearly 17 stories in the air over the outskirts of Universal CityWalk.”
The coaster is replacing the now-defunct Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, and Fast & Furious — Supercharged will also be permanently closing in 2027.
New Terrain Coaster — Six Flags Magic Mountain
Back in California, Six Flags Magic Mountain is building an unnamed roller coaster that will climb to a height of 127 feet before reaching a top speed of 56 mph along a track that features four inversions. Expected to be a Vekoma “Thrill Glider” coaster, this first-of-its-kind ride will feature motorbike straddle-style seats suspended from an overhead track that will hug the local hillside terrain.
The new ride is expected to debut in 2027 and will open near the upcoming Looney Tunes Land expansion.
Monsters, Inc. Coaster — Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Disney is getting in on the coaster action! Disney’s Hollywood Studios has confirmed a new Monsters, Inc. roller coaster is in development as part of the park’s upcoming Monsters, Inc.-themed land expansion.
Disney’s first-ever suspended roller coaster will have the track above the riders as they swing through set pieces designed after the door mechanisms from the Pixar film. It’ll include heavy storytelling elements, a family-friendly thrill level, and a seamless integration with the rest of the land. No opening timeline has been announced yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as details are released.
