Lin-Manuel Miranda is back for another Disney movie!

Disney just posted a YouTube video teasing that there will be a brand-new song in the live-action Moana, and it’s written by none other than Lin-Manuel Miranda. The movie is less than a month away from releasing in theatres, and this news is getting us more excited.
Moana and Maui are embarking on their adventure to restore the heart of Te Fiti this summer, as the live-action Moana movie releases to theatres on July 10th. We’re super intrigued to see the retelling of one of Disney’s most beloved movies of all time, and now we’re even more intrigued after hearing this news.

Lin-Manuel Miranda has put together a brand-new song just for this movie. Yes, one we’ve never heard before in the animated Moana. The new song is called “Along the Way“, and we’re warning you, it is CATCHY!

The goal with this new song was to make something distinct for this new film. Something to separate the animated movie from the live-action one. What really makes this new song special is that BOTH Moanas are going to be singing it. That’s right, Auli’i Cravalho (Moana 2016) and Catherine Laga’aia (Moana 2026) are singing this song together.

The song symbolizes Moana finding herself on her journey. Auli’i, who is the executive producer of the new Moana film, will be singing as Moana once again. Her Moana will be having a musical conversation with Catherine’s Moana.

Auli’i described the experience as passing the baton over to Catherine, as she embraces the Disney princess. Dwayne Johnson had a great time with this experience as he got to sing with his new co-star, as well as his previous co-star. Check out the video Disney posted below!
We’re looking forward to seeing the movie when it hits theatres on July 10th! For more Disney news and updates, make sure to follow us at the Disney Food Blog.
