Southwest Airlines Calls Out “Aisle Lice” Passengers and People Have THOUGHTS

To many folks, Southwest Airlines has certainly not done itself any favors over the past few years with some of the controversial business moves the airline has made. Longtime Southwest customers still seem to be upset about the airline’s new seating policy, as well as the airline’s departure from its “bags fly free” policy.

Well, the airline recently stirred up the controversy pot again with a comment made on social media. And this time, the airline has taken aim at aisle lice.

On Threads, Southwest recently made a post about aisle lice, aka the people who stand up immediately after the seatbelt sign light goes off after landing. The post read:

“You 👏 won’t 👏 get 👏 off 👏 the 👏 plane 👏 faster 👏 by 👏 standing 👏 up 👏 .001 👏 seconds 👏 after 👏 the 👏 seatbelt 👏 sign 👏 turns 👏 off 👏.”

Understandably, fliers clapped right back, taking offense at what they felt was a snarky post. Many revealed that they are very guilty of being aisle lice, but that the reasoning for it makes sense: getting up as soon as the seatbelt sign is off helps them stretch (because, let’s face it, plane seats are hardly comfortable) and grab their bags so they can deplane quickly.

Meanwhile, other fliers call the behavior inconsiderate. When passengers step into the aisle too early, they are blocking others and end up invading others’ personal space, which is limited inside the cabin. It might even be considered bad etiquette.

Other fliers say it’s not a matter of etiquette because when they do stand, it’s easy to politely grab your stuff and get ready to deplane, which makes the deplaning process faster. They insist that people who take their time gathering up their stuff are the ones holding up others. Granted, it seems like it’s a subject that everyone can’t agree on.
