There are NEW attractions coming to Magic Kingdom!
If you recall, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat closed in 2025 to make way for a new Cars-themed area in Frontierland. This addition is called Piston Peak, and it will include two new attractions. We’ve been keeping a close eye on construction to see the progress, and today we have a fun update!
Walls completely surround the former Rivers of America these days, and they cover a great deal of the construction, but from certain angles in Frontierland, you can see past the walls to get a glimpse of what changes are being made. For instance, it looks like there’s a NEW addition to one of the old boat docks!
The structure pictured here in front of Memento Mori was a secondary boat dock previously used for the Rivers of America that hadn’t been in operation for a long time. It was briefly used as extended queue area for Haunted Mansion, but now it’s behind walls and being transformed for Piston Peak. A shed-like structure has been added to the outside, which looks like it will enclose part of the space.
Other than that, much of the construction work being done still revolves around moving dirt and leveling the area. We can’t wait to see more of the structures getting put into place!
And the former Liberty Belle Riverboat boarding area? It’s still standing and ropes close it off. Walls cover the entry to the dock itself. We’ll be interested to see what Disney does with this space as construction continues — there’s a lot of potential if they keep it to fit with the Liberty Square theming.
We’ll continue checking the construction progress on Piston Peak and the other projects in Magic Kingdom. Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest!

A lot or reconstruction to accommodate Cars Land, we also hope ” they keep it to fit with the Liberty Square theming.” Maybe if they used cars modeled after the time period of the Frontier and Liberty Square……..
Wait A Minute!
I ordered the DFB bundle and haven’t received it. Is it a download or real pamphlets? I downloaded the free Christmas pamphlet and it’s dated 2025? What’s up with this?
I wish they could come up with a way to bring the Liberty Belle back
Hi Denise! The DFB Bundle is only available via download and the Christmas PDF is not available yet because Disney hasn’t released those offerings so we sent last year’s to prepare you as best we can and then the 2026 version will be sent to you as soon as it becomes available. If you are having issues finding and downloading them, please send an email to [email protected] and someone from our support team can help you out.
So, Things are moving at a typical snail’s pace as far as Disney construction goes.
Perhaps they could learn a thing or two from Universal about building!
I agree with Elizabeth; I loved riding on the river boat. I also loved frontierland. I’m just hoping that car’s land doesn’t ruin the frontierland atmosphere. 😞
I’m guessing Disney is still years away from this attraction/land opening. Based on their past performance history.
They don’t exactly set any records when it comes to construction.
