Walt Disney once said, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.” And since Walt Disney World first opened on October 1, 1971, new rides, attractions, and lands have certainly added LOTS of “new things” for guests to enjoy over the years!
Here, we’ve gathered all of the new rides and attractions in and coming to Disney World in 2023 and 2024 (and possibly even a bit beyond) so you can know everything there is to look forward to on the way!
New Rides and Attractions Coming to Disney World in 2023
TRON Lightcycle Run in Magic Kingdom — Opening April 4, 2023
Zooming into Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is TRON Lightcycle Run! Riders will board a train of two-wheeled Lightcycles and “launch into the Grid for a race through a dark, computerized world” reaching speeds up to 59 miles per hour! Get ready to ENTER THE GRID on April 4, 2023!
The story of this coaster will pick up after the TRON: Legacy film. (Friendly Reminder: Subscribers can currently stream TRON and TRON: Legacy on Disney+!) Sam Flynn, the main character in TRON: Legacy, has been opening up new gateways into the digital realm all over the world.
The first gateway is at Shanghai Disneyland (where the original TRON Lightcycle Power Run attraction is located). Now, Sam is opening a gateway to the digital world in Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom!
Note that, in order to ride TRON during its opening phase, guests will need to secure a Boarding Pass via Disney World’s Virtual Queue system OR purchase an Individual Lightning Lane through Disney Genie, as this attraction will NOT offer a Standby line.

P.S. TRON will also offer an on-ride attraction photo through Disney PhotoPass, AND will utilize a new complimentary locker system for guests to store their belongings!

Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana in EPCOT — Opening in Late 2023
Journey of Water is a new attraction — the first ever inspired by Moana — coming to EPCOT’s World Nature in late 2023!
Guests will be able to explore what Disney has described as a “lush exploration trail” that allows explorers to “play with magical, living water” through an immersive walk-through attraction.
Journey of Water is one element joining several others that will ultimately make up the historical transformation of the park.

Communicore Hall and Communicore Plaza in EPCOT — Opening in Late 2023
EPCOT hosts four seasonal Festivals throughout the year: the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, Spring’s EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival, the original EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival, and the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays. A dedicated Festival area is coming the park to serve as the new “home base” for EPCOT’s seasonal Festivals and live events!
CommuniCore Hall and CommuniCore Plaza will be housed in EPCOT’s World Celebration (which is slated to be completed in late 2023), bringing EPCOT International Festivals “to the center of Walt Disney World,” according to Disney. CommuniCore Plaza will provide an outdoor space where guests can come to relax and experience all that the Festivals have to offer.
CommuniCore Hall — the first fully-purpose built structure in Festival programing — will be housed within the plaza! This hall will ultimately host a wide variety of experiences with food, art, live music, and more with a demonstration kitchen, a mixology bar, and exhibition and gallery space, giving presenting chefs new ways to connect and experiment.

Mickey & Friends Meet-and-Greet in EPCOT — Opening in Late 2023
There will also be a new location in Communicore Hall called “Mickey and Friends” where you can meet some of your favorite Disney characters!
We can’t wait to keep you posted on the “& Friends” greeting guests with Mickey! If it’s anything similar to the previous Character Spot that previously existed in Future World, Minnie Mouse and Goofy were often part of the character scene in the area.
Figment Meet-and-Greet — Coming in Late 2023
Speaking of Meet-and-Greets… do you know who these song lyrics are about? “From head to tail, he’s royal purple pigment. And there, Voila…
… You’ve got a FIGMENT!” Disney has announced that guests will be able to meet FIGMENT in EPCOT “by the end of 2023.”
NEW and Updated Nighttime Spectaculars in EPCOT and Magic Kingdom — 2023
In Walt Disney World’s EPCOT, a BRAND NEW nighttime spectacular will make its debut in late 2023 in honor of 100 Years of Wonder: the 100th Anniversary celebration of the Walt Disney Company!
The production is currently in development, and — like the current Harmonious spectacular — will bring guests together around World Showcase Lagoon. With Harmonious ending on April 2nd, 2023, EPCOT Forever will return for a temporary run on April 3rd as an interim show while EPCOT is prepared for the 100th Anniversary spectacular.
Magic Kingdom’s evening fireworks spectacular, Disney Enchantment — which made its debut on the 50th Anniversary of Magic Kingdom (October 1, 2021) — will end its run with its final showing on April 2, 2023. But where there is a “goodbye,” there is also a “HELLO” to follow…
You see, the very next evening, April 3, 2023, will see the RETURN of the Happily Ever After fireworks in Magic Kingdom! The return of this beloved spectacular will have a nod to Disney Enchantment, as Happily Ever After will feature all-new projections which will come to life all the way down Main Street, U.S.A.!

New Rides and Attractions Coming to Disney World in 2024
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure — Opening Late 2024
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will open in both Disneyland park and Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in late 2024! In June 2020, Disney announced that the water-based ride Splash Mountain would close to be rethemed into an attraction inspired by the Disney animated film, The Princess and the Frog. So, Splash Mountain in Frontierland is — as of January 23, 2023 — permanently closed.
Disney has shared that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will pick up the story of The Princess and the Frog “after the final kiss, and join Princess Tiana and Louis on a musical adventure – featuring some of the powerful music from the film – as they prepare for their first-ever Mardi Gras performance.”
