Comfort food classics are served up with a huge serving of FUN (and a side of nostalgia) at 50’s Prime Time Café!

50’s Prime Time!

Don’t forget to eat all your veggies and keep your elbows off the table! Because at 50’s Prime Time Cafe, you’re back in Mom’s kitchen being served by your cousin, uncle, or some other “family member!”

Wherever you’re seated, you’re within eye shot of an old black-and-white set showing mid-century TV favorites. You can’t get much more fun than this.

The menu items include fantastic fried chicken, pot roast, meatloaf, and other favorites from your childhood. Great food, good prices, and a super fun atmosphere make up the 50’s Prime Time Café experience.

The menu is full of classic American comfort food that reminds us of the 1950s. Seriously, if you’re bringing the whole family here, this can be a great spot where there’s something for everyone to enjoy. You’ll also want to try one of their iconic shakes.

The Atmosphere at 50’s Prime Time Cafe

Located by Echo Lake, this spot will transport you back to the 1950s.

The entire restaurant is adorned with wallpaper, TVs, retro couches, and shelves filled with knick-knacks. There are multiple dining areas, and some even feature small TVs at the table, playing old cartoons.

We love the retro design!

It’s a fun place with a lot of characters, and if you’re looking for a themed dining experience at Disney, this is a great option.

So the schtick with this restaurant is that you’re eating with family, and your servers are your long-lost cousins. That means that if you misbehave during your meal, you just might get punished!

Clean Plate Club

During our meal, we got in trouble multiple times for having our elbows on the table (whoops!), and we’ve seen others get reprimanded for not eating all of their vegetables. Beware, because the punishments can be EMBARRASSING. Two of our reporters had to dance and sing “I’m a Little Teapot” in front of the entire room.

Of course, if you don’t want to participate in the shenanigans, you can tell your server that you’d like to simply observe. They’ll be happy to respect that request.

Generally, the jokes and the teasing are the main reason that many people come to this restaurant. You’re in for an entertaining experience, no matter what happens!

Nosh or Not

You need to go to 50’s Prime Time if…

You’re traveling with a bunch of extroverts who don’t mind being part of the punchline. The “shtick” of 50’s Prime Time is server interaction — where your servers act like your family and joke around with you during your meal. (Think of it like the much more “family-friendly” version of the restaurant chain, Dick’s Last Resort.) While you’re more than welcome to request that you just observe the shenanigans going on at other tables instead of being directly involved in the interactions yourself, the jests and zany antics of the servers while they’re at your table is truly one of the main reasons to book a meal here.
You prefer comfort classic-style dining VS something more adventurous. Most of the 50’s Prime Time menu is filled with homestyle favorites — like fried chicken, meatloaf, pot roast, and the like. Very familiar flavors, very warm and hearty, and nothing too out of the box that’ll throw off your palate.
You’re feeling extra nostalgic for yesteryears. They don’t call this place 50’s Prime Time Cafe for nothin’! When you step through the door of this restaurant, you’re stepping back in time, back to the 1950’s where bold wallpaper patterns and black-and-white tube TVs were all the rage.

This spot might be a skip if…

You’re afraid of overstimulation. After hours of being in Hollywood Studios — once you’re hot, tired, and have been surrounded by shoulder-to-shoulder guests all day long — the last thing you may want to do is eat at a sit-down meal that’s rowdy and requires you to banter with your servers to keep the entertainment momentum going. Again, you can always request that you just be an observer, not a participant, but — again — the participation aspect of this restaurant is why you come here in the first place.
You want the BEST comfort classic-style dining in all of Disney World. Are the homestyle favorites here good? Yes. Are they amazing?! Maybe if you’re starving. But if you’re actually on the hunt for some of the best fried chicken/good ol’ southern cooking property-wide, you might have better luck over at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ in Disney Springs.
You want a guaranteed Tube TV table. The black-and-white tube TVs are another really fun aspect of 50’s Prime Time Cafe. The only problem with that is not EVERY table is gonna have a tube TV. You can always make a tube TV request when you’re checking in at the host stand, but getting one still won’t be a 100% guarantee.

Important Information

Be sure to keep your elbows off the table and be nice to your sister; if you don’t, you might find yourself with your nose in the corner! The servers here dole out some hilarious “punishments” if you’re being impolite at the table! (No worries, though, if you’d rather not partake in the fun, just let your server know.)
