And trust me, as someone who lives here and has done Disney during hurricane season more times than I can count, there are ways to plan smart and protect your vacation. So, when exactly does hurricane season start in Disney World?

Here’s the thing: hurricane season has a date on the calendar, but Mother Nature doesn’t really follow rules. Officially, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1st through November 30th. But over the past few years, we’ve seen storms pop up earlier and earlier—sometimes even weeks before June hits. And according to early 2025 forecasts, that trend might not be slowing down anytime soon. Let’s talk about what that means if you’re planning a Disney World trip soon.

Experts have predicted that the 2024 hurricane season will be worse than previous years, and with it quickly approaching, it’s time to start preparing! Especially when you consider that we might be in for a seriously dangerous few months with new expert predictions.
It might seem too early to say this, but the 2024 hurricane season is nearly upon us.
Each year Florida prepares for its annual hurricane season, and naturally, this year is no different. Disney World is always prepared during a hurricane and typically makes your stay in one of the hotels fun and memorable (as well as safe, of course). But there are some differences between this year and other years in terms of predictions and outlook for what’s to come. Eric Burris, the chief meteorologist of WESH News, shared his insight into the predictions for the coming season, and how this year may be different from the recent past.
Hurricane Idalia is nearing Florida, and residents are preparing now in advance of the storm’s landfall.

Storm in Hollywood Studios
The storm is expected to hit eastern Florida on Wednesday morning (August 30th), and it will pass through the state later that day. The Orange County mayor, Mayor Demings, held a press conference today (August 29th) to give an update on the county’s preparations and expectations for Hurricane Idalia.
UPDATE: Tropical Storm Nicole has been upgraded to a category 1 hurricane as of 7PM ET on November 9th.
Disney has already announced several changes that will happen at the Disney World parks and hotels in response to Tropical Storm Nicole, which is expected to affect Central Florida today (November 9th) and tomorrow.
The parks are going to have a phased closure beginning at 5PM on November 9th, and several nighttime events have been canceled. Disney suspended cancelation fees as well, so you can cancel your reservations without penalty if you had previously planned to visit in the next few days. Hurricane Ian is currently a Category 4 hurricane. The storm is expected to make landfall along the west coast of Florida on Wednesday, September 28th. In preparation, Florida officials have issued mandatory evacuations in some counties and various extreme weather watches and warnings throughout the state. A tornado watch has now been issued for Central Florida.
Disney World has responded to the incoming storm by closing some hotels and attractions, updating their cancelation policy, and limiting available hotel reservations.
