My Disney Food Day: In Pictures

I’ve had a busy and rewarding day at the Walt Disney World “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” media event; and while you’ll be seeing in-depth blogs over the next few days about my adventures, I wanted to share with you as soon as possible a few of my favorite Disney photos from today.

So, come along with me on this mini-photo-trip-report!

My Disney Day in Photos
First, we got up early-early-early to head over to Epcot for our Akershus breakfast with the Princesses. I think this is just about the most true-to-”life” Snow White I’ve ever seen:

Then it was off to the “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” Media Event, but what do I see as I’m walking around World Showcase? Giant tin cans!! These were used throughout Epcot today as themeing for the Volunteer Events! This one indicated that a VERY cool Detroit radio station would be broadcasting live from Epcot today! (Shout out to Jake Edwards!)

Finally made it around the Showcase in time for the big World Record reveal and Media Event. This is the World’s Largest Sculpture Made of Canned Goods! Be sure to check out our breakdown of the foods used for each character!

And of course I needed to get Pluto’s picture in front of his canned-good likeness!

I was thrilled to see that Mickey’s fingers were made out of huge-mongo bags of marshmallows.

I was also able to get a photo of Michelle Nunn, CEO of Points of Light Institute and co-founder of the HandsOn Network, the volunteer organization partnering with Disney in the “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” celebration. This is one of my favorite photos of the day, as my background is in nonprofit work and I truly believe that this “Give a Day” program will change the way Corporate and Nonprofit players work together from now on. It’s an incredible step forward for those of us in this field.

And one of my other favorite photos of the day has to be of Kermit the Frog, perching on Ty Pennington’s shoulder, with Kermit’s puppeteer crouching down behind Ty. The puppeteer was trying to stay out of the shot. It was pretty surreal to see.

After the event, I noticed Dinner:Impossible chef, Robert Irvine, running around the World Showcase — actually got the chance to meet him!

I quickly took a moment to explore a part of the World Showcase I’ve never seen…

Then, it was back out on my own to explore and take photos. Here’s the famouse seedling-planting, in which several Disney Channel rock stars were involved!

I headed over to the UK pavilion to scope for British candy and found my favorite: Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles!! (These are best if you keep them in the refrigerator until you’re ready to eat them. Nobody else will tell you that, but I will.)

And ventured over to the pub, where I met the famous Carl…who can do THIS!

From there, it was back over to Chef Irvine’s kitchen to see how things were going…

Finally, it was time to EAT! My favorite Chef Irvine dish? The Brownie Torte!

And after some chatting and chomping, it was time for the Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato concert to begin! Here’s my “cheesecake push-up” jiving to the music:

I hope you enjoyed the tour of my Disney Day! Stay tuned for more photos and feedback from this week’s “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day” media event!

Looks like a great day! Food is definitely one of our favorites part of any Disney trip – thanks for sharing! By the way, we will be eating at Akershus in about 2 weeks. I hope Snow White is there (she is my two year olds favorite princess!).

So where do I find the recipe for that scrumptious looking Brownie Torte? It looks yummy!

  6. AJ says:

Elizabeth — I hope so, too! Lucky you for being there in two weeks!

Aurora — The cheesecake pops were SO rich! And it felt really strange to be eating cheesecake like that… :-)

Paul — Doh! I should have bugged the chefs I met to give me the recipe! Maybe if we watch the Dinner:Impossible episode we’ll learn what went into the dish… Or maybe they’ll put the recipes up on the food network site. Hmm…I must do some digging.

I just LOVE the can sculpture

  8. AJ says:

Cody — Wish I could have seen you! Are you still headed to WDW at the end of Feb?

  9. I wanted to try Chef Irvine’s brownies. Got two for hubby and I. I was chatting with someone at our table and he ate both of them. Loved the concept of the cheesecake pops (so did my 2 year old). Need to get my photos and mind organized to start blogging about our week at Disney. For some reason I am just more focused on laundry and reading all about your adventures.

  10. AJ says:

I’m so glad you’re interested in the adventures! I can’t wait to read about your experiences! Sorry hubby ate both brownies…I’ve already written to Chef Irvine about the recipe!
