Dining in Disneyland: Breakfast at Flo’s V-8 Cafe

Since it’s one of my new favorite places to grab a quick lunch/dinner at Disney California Adventure, I figured I should probably head over to Flo’s V-8 Cafe to try out some breakfast options as well. I am happy to report that it didn’t disappoint!

Atmosphere

As you walk into Flo’s, you are handed a breakfast menu that includes photos. I actually love that fact that they include pictures of the meals. It makes it so easy to order, especially when you’ve got little ones with you.

I had no problem “selling” the waffles to my boys.  My whole family was with me on this visit, so we made sure to order just about everything on the breakfast menu!

When you get up to the counter to order, there’s also a large menu board.

And I love the juke box and diner style clock that sits there as well…

This is all of the atmosphere I’m giving you today, though, so if you’d like to see lots more, check out this post.  Now, on to the food!

Adult Breakfast Entrees

My husband ordered the Chicken Tamale Breakfast: Chicken Tamale, Scrambled Eggs, with Salsa Verde and Pico de Gallo.  We both enjoyed the dish; it was flavorful with a nice texture.

The salsa was pretty mild, so if you like spicy, grab a few packets of hot sauce on your way to your seat.  Other than being a tad bit salty & the fact that the salsa was more rojo than verde, the dish was quite likeable if you’re looking for something a little more unique for breakfast.

I went with the American Breakfast; Scrambled Eggs, Breakfast Potatoes, Bacon & a Biscuit.

Everything was prepared to perfection. The eggs were not runny, the bacon was crisp, and the potatoes were seasoned nicely. AND let’s not forget that biscuit. I am a biscuit lover. Jelly and butter are a great topping, but if there were gravy involved, I’d be in heaven.

American Breakfast

Even though these two plates are plenty of food for two adults, we of course had to try the Brioche French Toast which is baked and served with Salted Caramel Sauce and Bananas.

This meal is basically dessert. It’s very tasty, but also very sweet. Unless you think you can handle the sugar overload, I actually recommend sharing an order.

The French Toast is crisp on the outside edges and moist in the center.  The sauce is amazing. Much like caramel apple caramel, it’s quite thick. I have to say though, I didn’t really notice the “salted” aspect of it.

My favorite part of this dish? Using those fresh bananas to slop up the extra caramel sauce. I wonder if you can order a side of bananas with caramel sauce at Flo’s?  I might just have to ask next time!

Although we did not order the Seasonal Fruit Plate which includes cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, grapes, low-fat yogurt and a blueberry muffin, I did notice that the fruit used on the platter looked very fresh.

Kids’ Breakfast Entrees

The Kid’s Menu at Flo’s consists of three options. Both the American Breakfast (minus the potatoes and biscuit) & Seasonal Fruit Plate are mini versions of the adult entrees. They come with smaller portions and a child size beverage of choice.

Both of my boys went with the Waffles served with Bacon and Fresh Fruit.  The image on the menu doesn’t show you that the waffles actually have Cars Characters on them. They are adorable!

And in case you’re wondering why the bacon “looks funny,” it’s because it’s turkey bacon. Flo’s offers both pork and turkey bacon. A nice option to have, I think!

This particular dish is quite small portion wise, the waffles are “mini” sized. My boys would eat two orders if I let them!

Overall

Flo’s is the perfect pit stop for a quick breakfast.  Although the restaurant is counter service, the food and cast members make you feel like you’re getting table service.

There’s plenty of seating, the lines move quick, and the view of Radiator Springs can’t be beat.  I think that between the location, price and quality of the food, you can’t go wrong with breakfast at Flo’s. My family will definitely be back.

    The French toast is definitely the star of the show here. Really more bread pudding than French toast. Here in Pennsylvania we have something called a Penn State grilled sticky. Very reminiscent of that, but with caramel and bananas. Delicious.

    Woot! I hope the Tamales stay popular enough to stay for a while . . . we need the time to get to Anaheim!

    Tamales for breakfast? Yum! Were they pork or beef?

  4. Heather Sievers says:

    @Pudge – This has caramel and bananas too! It’s basically dessert for breakfast!

    @John – I hope so too!

    @Beth – They are chicken.

    Thanks for the review Heather.

    BTW, any chance Carnation Cafe or another Disneyland Resort restaurant will start offering “Cafe Cinnamon Roll French Toast” again? I personally miss this, and it seemed pretty unique and tasty for breakfast food in general.

    @Pamela – I have asked multiple times at Carnation and keep getting “Not that we know of.” Our best bet is to keep complaining! I do! ; )

    We learned this when we went to Flo’s for breakfast three times this July (yes, we are creatures of habit).

    If you want the fruit plate, get the kids’ meal. It’s the same as the adult fruit plate, and the same price. The only difference is your $5.49 includes a drink if you’re ordering the kids’ meal fruit plate, but the same $5.49 does not include a drink if you are ordering the adult fruit plate. The blueberry muffin that goes with the fruit plate is really good too.

    @Tamara – Thanks for the tip!
