In order to make sure you hear everything we hear, I created this Disney Food News Pinboard to capture the bits and pieces of information we receive through the grapevine.
I’m so grateful for all of the tidbits of info that I hear from readers and friends — I rely on you guys to be eyes and ears for the DFB since I’m in Texas. If you hear a piece of Disney Food News, please pass it along to us via twitter, facebook, or email so that we can post it either on the Blog or on the Pinboard!

Splitsville Adds Gluten Free Dishes:
Sixteen new gluten free dishes have been added to the regular Splitsville menu. This Downtown Disney location in Orlando now features delicious, gluten free dishes including: rice bowls (fiesta chicken, steak fajita, Asian shrimp and spicy veggie) served with sticky rice; pizza crust; sushi rolls with no rice (The Alberto with spicy tuna and avocado rolled in thinly sliced cucumber and served with lemon ponzu sauce); Blazing Chicken (tenderloins in spicy Buffalo sauce), steamed edamame and seared ahi tuna (also served as a salad with spring mix and Asian pear dressing); turkey BLT salad (roasted turkey, lettuce, avocado, tomatoes, bacon, red onion, and blue cheese); blackened mahi mahi with spicy voodoo shrimp; and grilled salmon.
Disneyland’s Rocky Road Caramel Apple: Starting November 1, Disneyland Resort guests can enjoy a new featured candy apple — the Rocky Road Caramel Apple. Topped with smooth milk chocolate, then covered in marshmallows and crunchy roasted almonds, this treat will be available at Candy Palace in Disneyland; Trolley Treats in Disney California Adventure park; and Marceline’s Confectionery in Downtown Disney.

New Breakfast Items at Cozy Cone Motel: The Cozy Cone Motel in Disney California Adventure has added breakfast scrambles to the menu for $6.99 plus tax. Choose from two versions: Chorizo and Eggs Cone (scrambled eggs, chorizo, tart tomatillo sauce, and fresh pico de gallo) or Southwest Scramble Cone (scrambled eggs, bell peppers, onions, roasted corn, black beans, Cheddar cheese, and an avocado corn salsa). Breakfast is served from park opening until 11AM.
Disney Cruise Line Announced Palo Price Increase: The Disney Cruise Line adults-only restaurant, Palo, will now cost $25 for brunch and dinner for future bookings. The price increase is already in effect on the Disney Dream, Disney Wonder, and Disney Fantasy. The new price will go into effect on October 20, 2013 aboard the Disney Magic.
Ghirardelli Opens at El Capitan Theatre: Ghirardelli opened its newest soda fountain and chocolate shop. The Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop is located next to El Capitan Theatre. Partnering with Disney, Ghirardelli will feature a specially created sundae for the opening of the new Disney animated movie “Frozen”. Look for more exclusive treats with the release of select films!
Chips & Slices Open at Lake Buena Vista Golf Course: Check out Chips & Slices before or after your round of golf at Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf. Serving breakfast and lunch, plus beer and mixed drinks!
New Menu Item at La Cantina de San Angel: Epcot’s counter service restaurant, La Cantina de San Angel, is now serving a Barbacoa Torta with Barbacoa, sour cream, guacamole, and black beans. Source: @erwalker23
New Menu at Disneyland’s Rancho del Zocalo: The menu at Rancho del Zocalo in Disneyland features new classic dishes from South of the Border. Try the Guadalajara burrito, carnitas tacos, pollo en mole, Hacienda Caesar Salad with marinated beef tips, and for the kids — arroz con frijoles (beans and rice), served with applesauce and lowfat milk!
Hawaiian Shave Ice Food Truck at Downtown Disney Anaheim: A Tropical Shave Ice truck was spotted in Downtown Disney Anaheim this past weekend. We’ll update once we find out if this truck is permanent or temporary to the location in front of Earl of Sandwich. Thanks to @ParadisePeer for the information!
Updated Menu at Disneyland’s Harbour Galley: Harbour Galley in Disneyland has debuted new menu items including a classic lobster roll and shrimp Cobb salad. The popular Broccoli and cheddar cheese soup and clam chowder selections will still be offered. While the broccoli-cheese baked potato has been removed, a new shrimp salad topped spud joins the popular bacon-cheese-sour cream potato on the menu. Creamy cole slaw has been added to the barbecue chicken baked potato too. There’s also fresh fruit and a Kids’ Power Pack (yogurt, fruit, veggies, crackers and milk or water)!
New Entertainment at Scat Cat’s Club at Port Orleans French Quarter: Scat Cat’s Club in the Port Orleans French Quarter resort has new evening entertainment. While jazz musician Elliot Dyson is no longer performing, Tom Casey (pianist and vocalist) will appear Friday through Monday at 8:30, 9:30, and 10:30PM. Source: WDW For Grownups
Lots of Changes to Menus Around Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Turkey legs are no longer available at Trilo-Bites, but can be found at Flame Tree Barbecue. The Veggie Sub is off the menu at Restaurantosaurus, but a Black Bean Burger is available. Frequent guests will notice price increases across several menus. And Harambe Popcorn now has the Jungle Juice Slush officially on the menu! Thanks to Touring Plans for tweeting all the news.
Monsieur Paul New Year’s Eve Reservations: Opening at Noon on December 31, 2013, Monsieur Paul will serve a three-course menu for $75 (plus tax and gratuity) until 6:30PM. At 9PM and 9:30PM, there’s a special four-course menu to ring in the New Year for $195 (plus tax and gratuity). See menu here. For reservations, call 407-WDW-DINE.
Wine Spectator 2013 Restaurant Wine List Awards: Signature Walt Disney World and Disneyland restaurants — Victoria & Alberts, Shula’s Steak House, Citricos, Narcossee’s, Jiko, Flying Fish Cafe, Il Mulino New York Trattoria, Bluezoo, Catal Restaurant & Uva Bar, Naples Ristorante E Pizzeria, and Napa Rose — have been recognized with a Wine Spectator 2013 Restaurant Wine List Award of Excellence. Garden Grove Dinner Buffet Discontinued: According to Swan & Dolphin Dining, the Garden Grove’s dinner buffet has been discontinued Saturday through Thursday nights as of July 17th. A buffet-style dinner will only be offered on Friday evenings.
Hat Lady Show Ends at Rose and Crown: The Hat Lady Show will no longer be performed at the Rose & Crown Restaurant in Epcot. Source: WDWMagic
Fridge Removal at Disney Resorts: Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Aulani resorts have removed or disconnected the refrigerators in some guest rooms due to a possible defect. Guests will receive a letter in their room regarding this removal. The schedule to replace refrigerators is anticipated to take several months.

World of Color Picnic Meals Discontinued: Disneyland Resort has indicated that as of June 1, 2013 the World of Color picnic meals have been discontinued. Guests will still be able to get World of Color FastPass tickets at the distribution machines by Grizzly River Run, or purchase table service dining packages featuring World of Color reserved seating at the Wine Country Trattoria at the Golden Vine Winery, Carthay Circle Restaurant and Ariel’s Grotto.

Raglan Road Receives Award: Raglan Road in Downtown Disney Orlando has received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2013. This prestigious award places Raglan Road in the top-performing 10% of all businesses worldwide on TripAdvisor, and is given to businesses that consistently earn high ratings from TripAdvisor travelers. Congratulations!
New Sandwich at Pecos Bill: The Chicken Wrap is no longer on the menu at Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe in the Magic Kingdom. It’s been replaced with a Deluxe Chicken Sandwich that is served on a Ciabatta roll with arugula, bruschetta, bacon, and chipotle ranch sauce for $10.59 (choice of corn on the cob, French fries, or apple slices as a side item). Heinz Natural Ketchup: Disney’s Hollywood Studios counter service condiment kiosks now feature Heinz Natural Ketchup packets. They are made with real sugar instead of corn syrup. Thanks to Reader Steven for the heads up!
Be Our Guest Restaurant Receives Award: Be Our Guest Restaurant at the Magic Kingdom has earned national recognition. The Operator Innovation Award from the National Restaurant Association (NRA) was earned for the technology at the restaurant, including great storytelling and state-of-the-art touch-screen terminals which allow guests to customize their orders. The personalized, streamlined experience enables the restaurant to serve more than 3,000 meals at lunch each day. In addition, the restaurant transforms from a quick-service location for lunch to a table-service experience for dinner.
Todd English’s bluezoo: Chef Chris Windus is the executive chef at Todd English’s bluezoo at the Walt Disney World Dolphin resort. After ten years at bluezoo, it has been announced that he is leaving to head up the kitchen at a new Winter Park restaurant. We’ll keep our readers updated when news is released about a replacement chef and new menu at bluezoo.
Kona Island Sushi Bar: While you may still order sushi here, it is no longer being made by a chef behind the bar. Sushi is now prepared in the kitchen at the Kona Cafe in the Polynesian Resort.

Pecos Bill New Menu Item: In the Magic Kingdom, Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe is now offering a Southwest Chicken Salad.
Celebration Cakes at Epcot: Select Epcot restaurants now offer fancy celebration cakes, including fondant cakes, mini-cakes, and mini-figures in white chocolate. Source: Disney Travel Babble
Maji Pool Bar Serving Hot Food: Guests at the Kidani Village Pool will now be able to order hot food items poolside at the Maji Pool Bar. Menu items include a hot dog, Cuban Sandwich, Turkey Panini, and for the kids — a Grilled Cheese Sandwich. Source: WDWMagic
Victoria & Albert’s Honored: Zagat has named Disney World’s Victoria & Albert’s one of the top 15 iconic restaurants in the country!
Beverage Seminars Aboard the Disney Fantasy: New beverage seminars have been added to the offerings on Disney Cruise Line’s Fantasy. These include Amari Tasting ($20), Wine & Chocolate Tasting ($30), and a Rum Tasting ($15). Beverage seminars are usually offered on sea days and can be booked on Embarkation Day. Wolfgang Puck Cafe Menu Update: Joe Barrett shares some news from the Wolfgang Puck Cafe at Downtown Disney Orlando! New items added include Fennel Sausage Pizza, Barbecue Chicken Sliders, and Crispy Chicken Salad.
Disney World Receives Gluten Free Award: The 3rd Annual Gluten Free Award Winners were announced and Disney World received top honors for a gluten-free vacation destination!
New Hours at Splitsville: The new entertainment venue, Splitsville, in Downtown Disney Orlando will now be open Sunday through Wednesday from 10am to 1am. It will remain open until 2am from Thursday through Saturday. Source: WDWMagic
Ghirardelli Snack Credit: Disney Dining plan snack credits can be used at Ghirardelli’s Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop. Anything below $5 (before tax) is a snack credit and includes the Decadent Drinking Chocolate. Snack credits can be used at the Soda Fountain and the Chocolate Shop!

New Menu at Shutters in Caribbean Beach Resort: A former Disney Cruise Line chef, Mike Reitzler, has taken the helm at Shutters in the Caribbean Beach Resort. While favorites such as chorizo-black bean soup and the crispy chicken wings tossed in habanero-brown sugar glaze remain on the menu, most of the items are new.
Try the Mahi Bake (fish tacos with crispy mahi mahi, avocado, lettuce, mango salsa and cilantro-lime sour cream) as a starter. Other new Caribbean-flavored items include: a citrus-poached shrimp with hot fried plantains; fresh fish with yucca dumplings; char-crusted New York strip steak with mashed sweet potatoes; pasta with shrimp, chorizo, spinach and goat cheese (there’s also a vegetarian version); cocktails like the Caribbean Smuggler; Red Stripe beer; press pot of Jamaican Blue Mountain; and no-sugar-added angel food cake topped with silky coconut crème Anglaise and fresh fruit.
Restaurant Updates at Disney’s Vero Beach: Disney’s Vero Beach Resort has made some changes to the resort dining options. Shutters is now open exclusively for dinner. The lunchtime menu at The Green Cabin Room has been expanded and a range of menu options are now available at the Bleachers Bar and Grill. Room service, however, is no longer available.
DVC Member Gatherings with Refreshments: The Sleeping Beauty Pavilion at the Disneyland Hotel will host a weekly Disney Vacation Club Member Gathering. DVC Members are welcome to the Royal Member Gathering each Monday at 8am to play games, enjoy light refreshments, meet a Disney Character, and receive a DVC gift. Friends and family are welcome to join in on the gathering with a member. A DVC Member ID Card is needed for admittance. In Hawai’i, Aulani DVC Members are welcome to gather on select Monday mornings at 8am for a chat with coffee.
Menu Make-Over at Disneyland’s French Market Restaurant:
More than a dozen new dishes have debuted at the French Market Restaurant at Disneyland which is open for lunch and dinner. Instead of an all-day menu, they’ve also added a few more dishes for dinner! New dishes include N’awlin’s Salad, red beans and rice with Andouille sausage, and Cajun meatloaf. Dinner adds panko-crusted red snapper and Creole shrimp pasta, according to the Disney Parks Blog.
New Dining Locations at Aulani: According to DisneyParks Blog, two new quick-service locations are coming to Aulani. One counter-service location (near a new water play area) will serve a continental breakfast, plus a lunch and dinner menu with a selection of sandwiches, salads and snacks. The outdoor patio will provide a beautiful ocean view. The second quick-service restaurant will be located beach-side, offering grab-and-go snacks. Work begins September 2012 with an expected completion date of mid-2013.
The resort’s expansion will provide a larger lawn location for events, weddings and the nighttime Starlit Hui show. And a protective awning will be installed over the patio of Makahiki restaurant, home of “Aunty’s Breakfast Celebration,” featuring breakfast with Disney characters!
Aulani’s Makahiki Lunch: The Makahiki restaurant at Disney’s Aulani resort is now serving lunch, according to the DisneyParks Blog. Choose your own pizza toppings (pepperoni, Portuguese sausage, pineapple), salad blend (veggies, blue cheese goat cheese, feta cheese, grilled tofu, chicken, shrimp, fish), or sandwich combo. Sandwiches include a fish of the day, turkey, ham, and roast beef. Or try a signature entrée – Hawaiian pizza; Asian salad; and the Chef’s Special Bento.
Sides include slaw, garlic fries, a green salad, or potato salad. Plus, you’ll love the fresh fruit, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cake, and mochi ice cream dessert selections. The cost ranges from $11.50 for a salad to $15 for the bento box.
Champagne Brunch at DCL’s Remy: For cruises that include a sea day, the Disney Dream joined the Disney Fantasy in offering a champagne brunch at Remy as of June 2012. It’s a 5-course meal, each paired with a different champagne. Source: Reader Jeff Alves. Menu includes:

Flying Fish Tasting Plates: Flying Fish Cafe has introduced tasting plates to its menu! This means you can get smaller-sized portions of some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes! Try the Caesar Salad and Crab Cake appetizer plate and the potato-wrapped red snapper and strip steak entree plate! — Thanks to DFB Reader Kendra for the tip!
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Restaurants: According to our friend and colleague Cheryl Perlmutter, “Just went to DHS and they changed the rolls in the park to Udi brand rolls, which are not egg free.” This pertains to the bread rolls served at the restaurants and could affect some special diets.
Walt Disney World Restaurant Closures
Casey’s Corner Refurbishment: Casey’s Corner will be closed for refurbishment from January 6 – February 15, 2014.
End Zone Food Court Refurbishment: From August 5 – December 20, 2013, the End Zone Food Court at the All-Star Sports Resort in Walt Disney World will be closed for refurbishment.
Cap’n Jack’s: Closed as of mid-August for the Disney Springs renovation at Downtown Disney.
