My New Favorite Disney Pastry: Lemon Meringue Tart at BoardWalk Bakery

OK…I’ve been patiently waiting to share this with you and I just couldn’t wait any longer!!

The NEW Boardwalk Bakery -- three times the size of the old one!

My hands-down FAVORITE new treat at the newly refurbished Boardwalk Bakery is… .

This incredible Lemon Meringue Tart!!

Lemon Meringue Tart

I know. It looks totally innocuous, right? Maybe even a little too fancy? A substantial shortbread crust encases bright lemon curd. (LEMON CURD!!!!) Just a small amount of meringue garnishes the tart.

And I have to tell you… they have achieved lemon curd perfection with a strong (strong enough for me, which is saying something!!) [Read more…]

Chocolate Mickey Tart

The very first time I had the Chocolate Mickey Tart at Jolly Holiday Bakery in Disneyland, it was love at first bite. The shortbread crust and creamy ganache filling is out of this world!

How To Take Visually Delicious Food Photographs

Please welcome guest author Tom Bricker, photographer extraordinaire, to the DFB! He and his wife, Sarah, operate, a website featuring accounts of their adventures at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. I’ve LONG been a fan of Tom’s photography, so I’m so honored to have his expertise on the blog. Now, let me get my pen so I can start taking notes…

Photographing food at the Disney theme parks can be tricky. If you’ve ever taken a photo of your plate of food and looked at the LCD screen to find a blurry photo with odd colors, you know this.

The low and uneven lighting in many Disney restaurants can wreak havoc on a camera’s sensor, and bland composition can further reduce the visual appeal of food photos — even when the dishes photographed are especially mouth-watering! However, with just a few small changes to how you photograph food, you can achieve much better results. Here are my tips to producing visually delicious food photos:

Considering Photo Composition

Regardless of whether you’re using a DSLR or a point & shoot camera, composition is extremely important. It may sound funny to think of composition when photographing food; after all, it’s just a plate of food, right? How many different ways are there to photograph a plate of food?! Surprisingly, there are a lot of different ways, and the way you choose can [Read more…]

Disney Food Pics of the Week: Creme Brulee

Creme brulee is one of those desserts that’s found on almost every Disney signature dining restaurant. Made with a custard base and heated, hardened sugar on top, the creme brulee can take on many different flavors. It’s almost like a blank canvas for dessert!

Disney Food Pics of the Week: “Don’t Eat That Yet!”

Every amateur food photographer (and their families and loved ones) are very familiar with the phrase, “Wait! Don’t eat that yet!” :) Our meals get cold, we get odd looks as we position our food as close to the natural light as possible (not a comfortable task when your table isn’t by the window…), and our family and friends roll their eyes more often than not, but that’s the price we pay for a hobby!

Here are a few fun pics that show that art and style can follow an eager first bite or use a family member anticipating their dish as a fun background!

First, we begin with a favorite warm weather treat — the Mickey Cookies and Cream Ice Cream Sandwich! Photographer: JLovely

LIVE Food News and Photos: Disney World Media Event

UPDATE: Read about the Opening Date for Be Our Guest Restaurant and Reservations Info!

I’m reporting this week from the Walt Disney World Media Event showcasing the new Give a Day, Get a Disney Day volunteer program! Last night was the kick-off event, and we heard some fun dining news and got to taste some great eats over at the ESPN Wide World of Sports! (Psst — if you just want to see pics from the kick-off party, scroll down.)

Disney Food News
Unfortunately, I didn’t hear any BRAND new Disney food news, but recently opened restaurants Kouzzina and Sanaa were mentioned, along with the upcoming Be Our Guest restaurant and Gaston’s Tavern, to be found in the new-and-improved Fantasyland in 2012.

Other fun mentions that some of you might not have heard about are the two new, “interactive” restaurants on board the brand new Disney Cruise Line cruise ship, The Disney Dream. These include the Enchanted Garden, which magically transforms your surroundings from early morning to a night sky while you dine, and the Skyline Lounge, which has walls that change to reflect a new city scape each day!
