Menu Changes: Epcot’s Rose & Crown Pub and Dining Room

In our last review of Rose & Crown in Disney World’s Epcot, we took a look at some menu changes. And, with the new Spring season, it’s happened again! But this time it’s a bit more drastic.

There are several favorites that have been removed from the menu with this go-around! Potato Leek Soup? Gone. Sunday Dinner? Gone. Bangers and Mash? Gone (from the dinner menu).

But lots of new things have been added! The Ploughman’s Lunch and Cottage Pie are back on the menu after absences, and there are several new desserts to sample!

Best Disney Soups

We threw out an inquiry asking for favorite Disney soups and got back a crockful of great ideas! Soups are satisfying meals and hearty snacks and can really warm you up on a chilly park day. Disney’s been working overtime creating memorable ones!

The hands down favorite soup mentioned was the Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup at Epcot’s Le Cellier. Honorable mentions go to the soup selection at Boma and the French Onion Soup at Les Chefs de France.

New Menu Item: Appetizer Trio at Epcot’s Rose & Crown Restaurant

So, we chatted a few weeks ago about a food trend that seems to be taking Disney World by storm — trios! And we’ve found another new menu trio over at the Rose & Crown Restaurant that we thought was pretty great — almost as good as the English Bulldog!!

While the Yorkshire Dales was definitely on the tip of my tongue to order, that appetizer trio is new on the menu since my last visit, and I couldn’t wait to try it. It included Rose & Crown’s delicious Potato & Leek Soup — a strong contender for my favorite soup on property, scotch eggs, and Beef Pasties. The trio comes “to share,” so there’s two of everything — perfect when you don’t want someone stealing any of your soup!!!

7 Underrated Disney World Appetizers (You’ve Gotta Try These!)

We were chatting in my house about some of our favorite Disney World appetizers and realized that we don’t hear people talk about these seven very often! Are they underrated? Simply unknown? Who knows. Either way, I want YOU to know about them, because they’re quite yummy indeed.

1. Citricos: Arancini-Crispy Risotto
This appetizer, with Italian Sausage, Quattro Formaggi, and White Truffle Aïoli, is different. And that’s what I love about it. Fried risotto. Cheese. Sausage. It’s like a little ball of comfort. I love that this is the way I begin my slow, relaxing meals at Citricos.

2. Beaches and Cream: Chili
Simple. Straightforward. The best chili on property. If you disagree, let me know your favorite!

3. Liberty Tree Tavern: Tavern Fried Cheese with Marinara Sauce
You may think these are just cheese sticks. But you’d be wrong. See those little pudgy ones on the side? Curds. Curds! DeeeLISH! There’s a completely different flavor here than your standard chain restaurant cheese sticks; at least WE think so!

4. Le Cellier: Spicy Chicken and Chipotle Sausage with Roasted Corn Polenta and Sweet Onion Jam
While patrons (including me!) rave about Le Cellier’s cheddar cheese soup and trio of breadsticks, we were blown away when we tried this chicken and chipotle sausage. The corn polenta adds just the right texture to compliment the sausage. It’s a meal in itself, but don’t forget you’ve still got steak coming!

5. Rose and Crown Pub and Dining Room: Meat and Cheese Selection for Two
All you have to do is take one look at this beautiful board and you know it’s delicious. Black pudding, Stilton baked into a flaky pastry, sharp Cheddar, mushroom-infused Brie, candied walnuts, gherkin, a little pot of onions — it’s a little bit of everything. Truly, the best “cheese plate” I’ve found in Disney World to date. Pair this with a cup of the potato and leek soup, and you have an unforgettable meal. Thanks to for the photo!

6. ESPN Club: Patriot Clam Chowder
Liberty Tree Tavern has great clam chowder, too, but as they’re already on the list we wanted to mention our runner-up clam chowder at the ESPN Club! Brimming with clams and potatoes, we always order it with LOTS of oyster crackers…

7. California Grill: Potato Celery Soup
Unfortunately, this is seasonal. But I’m hoping it’s back next Winter! We were skeptical about California Grill until we dipped our soup spoons into this rich, flavorful, creamy soup. I wish words could explain how decadent this stuff is, but, alas, we’ll just have to hope we can fit all of the Disney Food Blog readers into a meet-and-greet at Cali Grill next February. Recipe: Potato & Leek Soup, Rose and Crown Dining Room

I have every intention of using this photograph again in a blog post about soup at Disney World. (Because I. Love. Soup.) But, for now, it’s serving its purpose as your motivation to add this recipe to your dinner plans as soon as the Fall chill sets in!

The soup is so rich I could barely finish (but I persevered). You can find it at the Rose and Crown Dining Room in Epcot’s World Showcase.

I’m finding two recipes on the internet, so I’ll post both:

The most common version, which I’m finding in several locations; usually dated 2007:

3 pounds Idaho potatoes
3 cups onion, diced
3 cups leeks, diced
1 TB butter
1 quart heavy cream
salt and pepper to taste

1. Bake the potatoes in a 375 degree oven for 50 minutes.
2. Saute onions and leeks in butter on low heat until clear.
3. Add heavy cream.
4. Once potatoes are done, scoop the center out with a spoon.
5. Once the heavy cream comes to a simmer, add the potatoes you scooped out.
6. Let simmer for 10 minutes, then pull off stove and puree the soup in a blender.
7. Next, strain through a fine mesh strainer. Taste and season with salt and pepper.
Cook’s Note: You must cool as soon as possible. If you cook the soup too long afte adding potatoes, the soup will come out brown.

From AllEars, dated 2008:

Makes 1 gallon, 16 8-ounce portions

6 potatoes
4 quartts heavy cream
1 onion, diced
2 bunches leeks, white parts only, cut up
1/4 cup butter
salt and pepper to taste

Cut up potatoes and cover with water to keep from turning brown. Wash the leeks (white part only). In a heavy pot, melt the butter, then add onion and leeks. Cook 5-10 minutes. Add potatoes and cream, simmer until potatoes are soft. When potatoes are done, puree with hand blender until smooth. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
