The DFB is back with another fun What’s New at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom and Animal Kingdom-Area Resorts!
Animal Kingdom
Animal Kingdom Menus and Eats
This Funfetti Donut Cake Pop at Creature Comforts is super fun! And since it’s shaped like a donut, that makes this cake pop breakfast-approved, right? You can find these at all the Starbucks in Disney World for a limited time.
Over at Warung Outpost, the Up! Cake Push Pop is still available. We loved this colorful, layered treat when it appeared for the Party for the Planet back in April!
At Anandapur Tea, guests can now order a Frozen Flame: a combo of passion fruit and strawberry slushie served non-alcoholic or with Grey Goose Vodka or Fireball Whiskey!
Thirsty River Bar and Trek Snacks has added two new cocktails: Dragon’s Breath with mango puree, pineapple juice, and ByeJoe Dragon Fire Liquor and a Singapore Sling with New Amsterdam Gin, Bols Cherry Brandy, sweet and sour mix, grenadine, and Sprite.
And guests can get that fun Up! Cake Push Pop here, too!
Dino Diner has lost its Nachos Supreme and added an Italian Sausage Hoagie. Don’t forget there’s a churro on the menu here!
Trilo Bites Snacks is closed seasonally (a pretty common occurrence), but the Buffalo Chicken Chips have migrated to Dino Bite Snacks.
Animal Kingdom Moment of Zen
Here’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: an Animal Kingdom Moment of Zen! First up: some fantastic entertainment in Harambe! This Mandinka Harp player isn’t new — he’s just awesome. 😉
We love his energy and the joy with which he plays. It brings so much to the atmosphere in this area of the park.
DiVine was out at the front of the park during our visit. She’s always fun to spot.
Animal Kingdom Lodge — Jambo House Updates
There’s always so much to see at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We’re bringing you some updated eats and merchandise, plus more zen. 😉
Animal Kingdom Lodge Menus & Eats
, the resort’s quick service spot, has removed the Bobotie Platter that used to be on the breakfast menu. Diners can still get a taste of Africa with the Bounty Platter, which includes pap and chakalaka.
We told you a few months ago about the yummy Carrot Cake that guests could find in Mara’s pastry case. It was topped with a cleverly disguised strawberry as the carrot back then.
Now it’s topped with white chocolate animals. We found flamingos, elephants, and giraffes on our visit.
Also in the pastry case, we found the brand new Hidden Treasures Cupcake. The cast member we talked to wasn’t sure what the titular hidden treasure is, but based on the ingredients list, we think it might just be the funfetti cake inside.
Mara also jumped on the Millennial Pink Cupcake bandwagon with this raspberry mousse concoction.
Honestly, we’re not seeing the millennial pink; it looks more like rose gold to us. But raspberry mousse sounds yummy!
Animal Kingdom Lodge Merchandise
We stopped into Johari Treasures, Jambo House’s gift shop. And you will not believe what we found.
It’s there on the shelf. Do you see it?
It’s the Bread Service Board from Sanaa!
Yes: this Bread Service!!
For $69.98 you get the beautiful wooden bread board, ramekins for all of the chutneys and sauces, plus recipes for all of the Bread Service Dips! What a treasure, indeed!
And since Pixar is taking over the World (and the Land!), here’s a Slinky Dog Disney Gift Card to celebrate!
We’re including the Jambo House Activities Board, which highlights the many programs available at the Resort.
We’re particularly interested in Cookie Decorating at Boma and Sanaa!
But our real reason for including the Activities Board is that examples of the Tie Dye activity are now displayed adjacent to the board — and these are available to purchase!
Animal Kingdom Lodge Moment of Zen
And now, your Animal Kingdom Lodge Moment(s) of Zen.
We feel calmer already. Time to move on!
All-Star Sports Updates
at All-Star Sports is scoring lots of points with some new grab and go eats and menu items! This Fruit and Nut Bark strikes us as an energy-boosting snack (that unfortunately will not survive the Florida heat… but melted chocolate is still chocolate!).
They’ve added a Meatball Flatbread to the menu alongside the Breakfast Flatbread and the Pepperoni Flatbread. (See if you can get that Pepperoni without the meat if you’re looking for a vegetarian option!)
There’s also an adorable new Minnie Mouse Strawberry Cupcake in the pastry case here!
Simple but pretty!
The Raspberry Millennial Pink Cupcake we’ve spotted at Art of Animation’s Landscape of Flavors has made an appearance in the End Zone.
All-Star Music Updates
At Intermission Food Court at All-Star Music, a Chicken Avocado Sandwich has been added to the menu. Gone is the Caprese Sandwich, which is a bummer because that was a tasty vegetarian option.
They’ve also added a Whiskey Barbecue Pork Sandwich to the menu here.
For dessert, may we interest you in a Chocolate Indulgence Cake? (The only acceptable answer is yes.)
We’re loving the naked cake look and those super bright sprinkles! +
For something completely different: Spiced Cherry-Blueberry Pecan Tart.
It’s pretty sophisticated looking (if you avert your eyes from that one wonky-looking blueberry). 😉
And who doesn’t want a Unicorn Cupcake?!
This one is wildly colorful, which works with that unicorn horn and pink pearls!
We loved the Rose Gold Unicorn Cupcake we spotted at Gasparilla Island Grill a while back. And the Unicorn Cupcake from Vanellope’s on the Disney Dream. Maybe we just have a thing for unicorns, ’cause we think one is super fun.
All-Star Movies Updates
At World Premiere Food Court, the Scene Stealer Shake is taking center stage.
It’s Cookie Dough Ice Cream with a Chocolate Chip Cookie garnish, so we think it sounds fantastic. Get it with or without the souvenir cup (without makes it snack credit eligible!).
Vegetarian Ziti joins the menu for an intriguing savory option. We’re curious about the ingredients in the Plant-Based Bolognese Sauce.
World Premiere has also introduced Create Your Own Yogurt Parfait.
The cup it’s built in is pretty size-able.
Select from a couple of yogurt options…
…and loads of toppings!
Around noon, the station converts into Create Your Own Salad, so the customization is on at All-Star Movies!
And if you’re in the World but you need to watch the World Cup, All-Star Movies has got your back! We spotted this placard with game times through Friday, June 22. They’re being shown at The Reel Spot, right in the main building of the resort.
And be sure to grab your selfie with the Incredibles 2 cast — in photo opp poster form!
Woo! That’s it from Animal Kingdom and the Animal Kingdom-Area Resorts! Stay tuned as we keep bringing you What’s New (and cool!) from Walt Disney World!

Ugh with all the cupcakes!! I’m sick of them. Such a cheap, cop-out option for Disney. I can see one or two but a whole menu of cheap cupcakes is so disappointing. And they are EVERYWHERE. We don’t eat wheat and Disney used to have so many other interesting options. Thankfully there are Zebra Domes at the Mara but even with that, I have to ask for the special “gluten free ones” and wait while someone runs over to Boma kitchen to fetch them. So many people don’t eat wheat, I don’t understand why there aren’t more options for us. And NOT the gluten free “flour” items (cakes made with tapioca starch, rice starch, corn starch, etc), but good stuff that is naturally wheat free like the zebra domes with a chocolate disc for a base or creme brulee or even rice cream like Kringla bakery has. Everything is now wheat filled. ‘Ohana used to have the pineapple with caramel sauce for dipping. Now it’s massive wheat overload bread pudding. We who are wheat free get a boring, basic vanilla ice cream. Seriously, it is sooo disappointing.

Every Disney Hotel needs the make your own salad with a choice of salad dressings. Vinegarette just does not do it. I learned on our last trip I will take my own dressing from now on.

Does the Sanaa bread service board at Johari Treasures only have 3 indentions for sauces, or 9 like the board at the restaurant?
DFB Sarah says
BC in Edmond: They had both on our visit!
