If there’s one ride we want to get on when we’re in Hollywood Studios, it’s Rise of the Resistance.
Rise of the Resistance has been crazy popular since it first opened, and that hasn’t changed in the reopened Disney parks. If you’re hoping for a trip to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to take a spin on this immersive ride, you’ll need to nab a spot in the virtual queue. Now, Disney is CHANGING the times that boarding groups are released! Learn when you can get them!
Prior to the park closures, the only way to get a boarding group in the virtual queue was to be in Hollywood Studios RIGHT when the boarding groups went live at park opening. With the reopening of the parks, the virtual queue shifted to having more than one distribution time — the queue goes live at 10AM, 1PM, and 4PM.
Starting July 24th, Disney is changing the distribution times to 10AM and 2PM. Guests will only be able to join the queue at those times. We’ve noticed that even with multiple distribution windows, spots in the queue have been going in under a minute.
The update came with a response to some guests’ frustration about the virtual queue filling so quickly in each distribution window. The statement explains that due to the added physical distancing measures in the park, Rise of the Resistance cannot accommodate as many guests as it could before the closures.
Remember, to join the virtual queue you will need to be in Hollywood Studios (with valid admission and a Disney Park Pass reservation) and you will need to use the My Disney Experience app. For more information on joining the queue, click here.
We’ll be sure to report in on if this change makes it any easier or harder to get a spot in the virtual queue. Stay tuned to DFB for the latest updates!

I’m confused…how will going from 3 opportunities per day to 2 be any better? What am I missing here?
The first day we tried at 10 AM and again at 1PM and did not get a spot, we were trying to get 4 of us in and it would take too much time I guess to click on us all, we have 21 people on or friends and family list. In the past when we went we would try using two phones and always we could do it that way and always we got in. Now it messes with the system and you can only have one person try. So by the time a got all 4 of us we got a boarding group and then it disappeared saying we did not get it. The next day we used two phones and each of us got in with 2 people so we could not go together, our groups were 2 hours apart so they did not even overlap to allow us to go together. Hopefully they will change this so you can have your party picked out before they open the cue. Does anyone know a quick way to add everyone, we are going back in September and 4 of us again would like to go on together.
Having just returned, our experience was the 1pm slots were completely gone in less than one minute! We were fortunate to grab one at the 4pm sign up.
We are here now and landed after the 10am distribution. We tried it one and at four and there was nothing available at all. There wasn’t even a join button. It immediately turned red saying they were at capacity. We talk to a cast member and I said that was normal. Because at 1 PM and 4 PM if they have given out all of the distribution at 10 and had any issues and those boarding passes haven’t been fulfilled, they don’t offer any at 1 or 4. Hopefully they will hold back atHopefully they will hold back some from the 10 o’clock slots for the 2 PM slot 10 for the 3pm slots now
We leave for Florida tomorrow. We have 2 days reserved for Hollywood Studios. We’ve not been since Rise of the Resistance opened, and, sadly, I feel like it’s extremely unlikely we’ll get to experience it this time around.
On the upside, we will finally get to ride Flight of Passage for the first time, as we’ve never been able to snag a FastPass before and refuse to wait 2-4 hours in line!
Dropping the 4 p.m. slot REALLY angers me!!! This makes it now impossible to ride this since we’ve planned on a 2 p.m. ADR. You know the 10 a.m. queue will fill up immediately!
Question: If I have a park ticket and reservation. Can I go to that park in the morning, leave for the hotel and then come back to the same park later in the day? I don’t see that information on Disney’s website
So Disney’s idea is that with reduced capacity in the park each day they can also reduce the opportunity for everyone to ride Rise of the Resistance? What genius came up with this massively stupid idea? Just when you think Disney can’t take anything else away from us during this reopening, they reach into their bag of tricks and pull this one out. Talk about screwing your patrons.
I know you have to be inside the park to (hopefully) get a boarding pass, but do you HAVE to be in Galaxy’s Edge? Or can you be anywhere in the park?
Thanks!
CJ, anywhere in the Park is good, as long as you’re tapped in and your location services are activated.
CB, you can. We have confirmed.
Good luck, and have fun, Shayne!
Awesome! Thanks DFB Sarah!
It’s a complete joke. They fill up in 30 seconds. How do they justify this to people?
They need to do fewer spots for each queue opening and do them more often. The way it is, you have to arrive for the first time slot because if anything happens to the ride, all other slots go to standby. Not everyone is able or wants to be in the park at rope drop.
Anyone have success getting a refund? One of the main reasons I bout 4 tickets to Hollywood. Jumped on the Que in 2 seconds and it was full. Literally 2 seconds. BS. I want partial refund. Come here one every 10 years. Spent thousands.
