The global health crisis may have caused some delays, but that hasn’t stopped the EPCOT Transformation from progressing. One major delay was to the upcoming refurbishment on Spaceship Earth.
This major refurb is set to introduce a new narration, new focus, and new scenes. Of course, it was delayed indefinitely due to the global health crisis, so we have NO idea when the attraction might close. Still, a new permit might point to some refurb work!
Today, Walt Disney Imagineering filed a permit for the “installation of source power and control equipment” at the address registered to Spaceship Earth and Project Tomorrow. Hmm…that sounds like it could be the foundation for some major work.
The biggest clue we have that this might have something to do with the Spaceship Earth refurbishment is that the contractor, The Whiting Turner Contracting Company, is the same one that we spotted on the initial permit for the refurbishment before it was delayed.
Of course, the permit is not very specific. So, that work could be for the Spaceship Earth attraction, Project Tomorrow, or even one of the other spaces inside the “EPCOT ball.” We’re not sure.
Still, we will definitely be keeping an eye out for more Spaceship Earth permits and for changes to the construction in that area so stay tuned!

It was great the way it was. A minor improvement and some reimagined scenes work, a major refurbishment is scary

Ken, good news for you then: the refurb has been suspended indefinitely!
