The holiday season looks a little bit different this year in Disney World!
Disney made several changes to the season last year due to health and safety restrictions, and while things are starting to return to normal again, not everything is the same as it was before. We’re still missing our beloved Cinderella Castle dream lights, which have been replaced again this year with festive projection effects.
Although we think the new projections are beautiful, we sure are missing the icy-blue lights that normally illuminate Cinderella Castle. The change was pretty controversial last year, so we asked YOU what your thoughts were on the new projections, and thousands of our followers responded!
After getting the first glimpse at the projections last year, we posted the poll on our Instagram account, asking which of the two our readers preferred. The Castle Dream Lights that typically grace the castle during this time of year received 7,409 votes, securing 63% of the vote.
On the other hand, the new Holiday Projections received 4,366 votes, representing 37% of the vote! We were a little bit surprised by the number of votes the projections received, but they certainly make a whimsical and more varying backdrop for your photos!
We love giving you guys our honest opinions of our Disney experiences, but we ALSO love to hear your opinions! Follow along with us on Instagram to participate in our future Disney polls, trivia, and showdowns!

My family prefers the icicle lights on the castle. A cast member told a blog that Disney wanted to change it up. I disagree. With all the lay offs and budget cuts, I believe the projections was a cheaper route. I only liked the Star Wars projection show at Hollywood Studios (that was excellent). Not really into the projections on the castle and the Tower of Terror.

What I find weird, or frustrating, they didn’t light up the castle because of social distancing they didn’t want people crowding in front of the castle. But for the projections people crowd in front of the castle. They could’ve just lit the castle & skipped the show for a year

The projections are the cheap way out….so no holiday castle lights, no shows, no MVMCP, no fireworks, no parades…..and NO reduction in ticket price! Do you still think it’s worth it???? Those who do this this is worth it have to be desperate, when next year, you could have the whole experience, and not risk bringing home a Covid present! Whatever….

I prefer the Dream Lights by far, however, I can well imagine that Disney could 100% duplicate the Dream Lights via a projection. They do an amazing job on the projections. I would love to hear a professional’s comments as well as others. Actually, I don’t doubt Disney is considering doing just as I have suggested.

Totally agree with Dan. They should have had the dream lights on the castle. We needed all the bright, happy, sparkliness we could get this year. And the projection lights are definitely not it!

Another cut in the magic from Bob Cheapskate. The icicles lights were something I always looked forward to on the castle. The projections are just a cheap substitute.

I think it’s also cheap. Sorry for those of you who like the blow up stuff in your yards but it’s a lazy way to decorate. Keep it classy not trashy Disney.
