Thinking of visiting Disney World soon?
Then, you’ve probably seen that Disney World currently requires all guests ages 2 and up to wear an appropriate face covering. With distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine now underway for some groups, Disney has updated their mask policy and we’re sharing all the details here with you.
According to the Walt Disney World website, face masks are still required for all guests ages 2 and up as well as Cast Members, INCLUDING those who have received a COVID-19 vaccine. So, even if you have already received your coronavirus vaccine, you will still be required to wear a face mask while at Walt Disney World.
Guests are reminded to bring their own face coverings and wear them at all times, except when actively eating or drinking while stationary and keeping an appropriate physical distance from others. Face masks should also be removed when swimming, and can be removed at relaxation zones.
Some of the newest masks being worn are those with a clear, plastic panel over the mouth area, similar to the one in the photo below. If you’d like to wear a mask of this kind to Disney World, here are the rules you MUST follow.
The face covering MUST be made of a fabric mask featuring a solid plastic panel that contains NO openings. Additionally, the solid plastic panel MUST be attached to the fabric of the face mask on ALL sides using a tight knit stitching.
In addition, the face mask must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be made with at least 2 layers of breathable material
- Fully cover the nose and mouth and secure under the chin
- Fit snugly but comfortably against the side of the face
- Be secured with ties or ear loops and allow the Guest to remain hands-free
So, be sure to check if your mask meets all of these requirements.
Also, note that neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas, and face coverings containing valves, mesh material, or holes of any kind are not allowed.
Disney has also specifically noted that the use of a face mask is not a substitute for physical distancing. So, keep in mind that even though you’ll be wearing a face mask in the park, you’ll still need to maintain an appropriate physical distance from others.
Update: The Disneyland Resort website now notes that these same rules regarding the continued use of masks for those who have received the COVID-19 vaccine and rules regarding masks with a transparent section apply for guests visiting Downtown Disney District as well.
These are all important rules to keep in mind in advance of your next trip. We’ll continue to look for more updates from Disney about face coverings as the situation with the global pandemic continues. Be sure to check back with us here at DFB for all the latest news.

Brilliant! Make people get a dubious vaccine. But getting the vaccine does nothing to spare you all of the intrusive and unnecessary hassle! Brilliant! I’ll pass on both the vaccine and WDW until sanity prevails!
Jules says
It’s nice to see that WDW is paying attention to the science and making the health and well-being of all its guests a priority. Since we don’t yet know if getting vaccinated prevents someone from spreading the virus, and the vaccination process itself is in the very early stages, it’s smart to stick with the mask policy for now. If this policy is still in place by May when we’re hoping to visit, I’ll be happy to do my part to keep others safe.
Mike says
People have unrealistic expectations of vaccines. They are not so much for personal protection as community protection.
The big unknown at present is that although the vaccines are known to prevent or reduce illness in the majority of cases, they don’t yet know if any of them prevent transmission. Ie. They might just make you an asymptomatic carrier – so if you abandon all physical precautions then may you spread it around and harm more people. Hence the need (at present) to vaccinate most of the population before restrictions can be safely relaxed.
The sanity is in the science – there is no magic bullet here.

The transparent masked are a great idea for people that have deaf or Autistic people in their party. Aids comunication

Thank you DFB for always being on top of things regarding what’s going on at Disney – even with the COVID-19 vaccine, you still have to wear a mask – UGH! Reason #1 for not going to Disney World this year.

It’s great that WDW is continuing to make everyone wear a mask as the pandemic continues to rage. Even if the vaccine proves to be 100% effective for those who have gotten it there would certainly be unscrupulous people who would claim to have gotten their vaccine when they hadn’t gotten it at all. So how’s Disney going to police everyone? The answer is they can’t; so, just have everyone continue to wear their mask until this is over. IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD TO HAVE TO A WEAR A MASK FOLKS!!

Right on Jules. Love your comments about masking. It’s this kind of attitude that will help to control infections of Covid 19.

We iive and work on Maui an island with only one small hospital. Thankfully the wearing of masks is strictly enforced.
