EPCOT’s undergoing some major changes right now.
With all the excitement for upcoming rides like Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, along with anticipation for the Taste of EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival starting next week, a LOT of other attractions can get overlooked. We sure love talking about Spaceship Earth, Frozen Ever After, and Soarin’ Around the World. But what about those underrated attractions? What about Living with the Land?!
If you haven’t had the good fortune of riding Living with the Land, it’s a slow-moving boat journey that takes guests through different living systems to learn the history of farming. Plus, you get a sneak peek into EPCOT’s very own greenhouse (more on that later)! It’s relaxing, it’s educational…so WHY does no one talk about it?
We’re fixing that today! We’re gonna give you ALL the reasons why Living the Land is a great attraction, and why you should ride (or re-ride) it on your next trip to EPCOT. So let’s get started!
There Are Tons of Hidden Mickeys!
You and your little ones can search for hidden Mickeys while listening to a nice educational spiel. There are a bunch in this attraction. There are Mickey-shaped topiaries and pumpkins…
…and even hidden Mickeys inside the fish tanks!

You’ve Probably EATEN Food From The Ride…Say WHAT?!
A lot of the fruits and veggies grown in the greenhouses on this attraction are actually served around the park! Sunshine Seasons and the Garden Grill Restaurant both serve some of the fish and produce from this attraction. So on this ride, you’ll get an up-close look at the super fresh produce you could chow down on at your next meal.
There’s a lot of variety, too! You’ll see bananas, pumpkins, peppers, and some plants you probably didn’t even know were edible.

You Can Get A Peek Behind The Scenes
In one of the greenhouses, your boat will cruise past the Biotechnology Lab. This lab has a whole wall of clear windows, so you’ll be able to take a peek inside! Real scientists are working on real experiments in there, like researching crop improvement. Signs around the lab will tell you what experiments are happening that day, so you’ll know exactly what you’re lookin’ at!
If you want a more in-depth look behind the scenes, Disney offers the Behind the Seeds Tour. It’ll take you all around the Land Pavilion as you visit the 4 greenhouses and fish farms that make up the Living with the Land attraction. Although this experience is currently unavailable, it’s good to keep in mind for future trips.

It’s Educational
We’ve already touched on this, but if you pay attention, you’re gonna learn a lot on Living with the Land. Before you even get into the greenhouses, you’ll pass through rainforest, desert, and prairie living systems, learning about how roots trap water, how rainforests contain lots of plant and animal species, and how the desert is very much alive.
Once you’re in the greenhouses, you’ll learn about how innovative farming techniques are helping with food production. And, during your tour you’ll get a look at the future of farming!

It’s Relaxing
We’re going to paint a picture for you: it’s a hot day at EPCOT. You’ve spent all morning standing in lines for Test Track and Frozen Ever After that seemed to go on FOREVER. Your legs are tired. You’re sweating. Where do you go? Living with the Land, of course!
The attraction is air-conditioned — that’s a BIG bonus right there — and the ride is over 10 minutes long. That’s plenty of time to rest your tired feet. Plus, this ride is so underrated that it typically has one of the lowest wait times in the park. Educational AND relaxing?! Sounds like a win-win!

There’s A Seasonal Overlay!
One of our favorite parts about Living with the Land pops up once a year: its Merry and Bright Nights! For the holiday season, this ride is decked out with colorful lights, gift boxes, holiday wreaths, giant Christmas ornaments, and more.
The best part? At night, the whole attraction lights up with all these decorations!
If you’ll be in EPCOT for the holidays, we highly recommend riding Living with the Land at night for that full overlay experience.

It is a family favorite. My firstborn wanted her father to buy the house in it when she was a child. Now she’s an adult and still loves it. You neglected the fact that it also does overlays related to the festivals and other holidays. From Halloween pumpkins to which booth is serving those edibles and greeting signs related to the event…
I love this ride except for the Bison. The narrator mentions buffalo but the only buffalo you will find in north America are actually bison. It is something that every time I hear it I want to shout that they are Bison not buffalo. I don’t because that would ruin the ride for others. My brother just cringes knowing one day this may happen. There are so many good things in the scheme this is pretty minor, but…
