When the Disney World parks closed in early 2020, and reopened later that year, one thing that remained closed was Finding Nemo: The Musical. And it’s been closed ever since.
The 40-minute long show told the story fans know (and love) from Finding Nemo with colorful puppets and GIANT set pieces, plus it featured some really catchy songs (seriously, we haven’t been able to get “In The Big Blue World” out of our heads!). Last year, Disney announced that a new, reimagined Finding Nemo musical would be opening in its place. Ever since the announcement for the new show, we’ve been waiting for more details, and today, we finally got some!
Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond! (which is the name of the reimagined show) will be opening this summer in Animal Kingdom. It’s a reimagined version of the original show and will include some aspects from the newer movie, Finding Dory.
As part of the story, we’ll get to catch up with the fish from Dr. P. Sherman’s office from the Finding Nemo film. These fish have actually made their way across the sea and over to the Marine Life Institute, which fans will recognize from Finding Dory. During the updated show, the fish get inspired to tell Nemo’s story.
At only 25 minutes, it is just slightly more than half the length of Finding Nemo: The Musical, but don’t worry, because we can still expect to hear some of the songs from the original show, including specifically In the Big Blue World and Go with the Flow.
The show will feature a new script and some other new features.
New set pieces have been created for the show, including a 32-foot-long sunken submarine and a nearly 15-foot-tall aquarium volcano!
An LED video wall has also been added to “visually extend the world created by the physical sets on stage.” We can also expect to see a new aesthetic that has been created for the show inspired by cut-paper sculptures. Disney actually worked closely with Pixar Animation Studios to develop this new aesthetic. You can watch a video below to get a first look at some of the new aspects of this reimagined show!
An official opening date has not been shared yet, so make sure to stay tuned to DFB for more information!

Once again, I hope they won’t be shy about “borrowing” from the original score, which was wonderful.
