One of the first ways we know that fall has arrived is when Magic Kingdom gets decorated with TONS of pumpkins and leaf garlands galore.
These decorations are usually followed quickly by the return of Halloween treats and snacks, and, of course, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. But have you ever wondered what goes into decorating Magic Kingdom for Halloween? Well, wonder no longer because Disney shared a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to get Magic Kingdom ready for the spooky season!
Lots of the Halloween decorations go up in Magic Kingdom in one night alone, with Cast Members (who have prepared all year for this) getting everything set up and perfect for guests to enjoy the next day. Preparation for Halloween begins as soon as the holiday season ends, with months and months of planning going into this one night where everything is executed.
You might be familiar with the iconic Mickey Mouse pumpkin wreaths that usually line Main Street, U.S.A., but last year, as part of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary Celebration, Disney debuted Cinderella Coach pumpkin wreaths instead.
These pumpkins reappeared with the Halloween decor this year, but Disney has shared that come November 1st (when Disney usually begins the transition from fall to the holidays), “they’ll turn back into the traditional Mickey pumpkins we all know and love and will be stored until the fall magic returns next year.” We’ve seen Mickey pumpkins start to appear around Magic Kingdom already, so it seems like the Cinderella Coach pumpkins are going to be phased out and won’t return next year!
