We probably aren’t the first ones to mention that Disney World can get a tad bit busy around the holidays.
We’ve been keeping up with the crowds and wait times so you know how to prepare for your visit, and while some crowds have surprised us (in being shockingly low), other spots have had big crowds. High crowd levels may tempt you to pay for Genie+ or get Pay-Per-Ride access to Disney World’s most popular attractions. If you’re thinking about trying to get an Individual Lightning Lane for the parks’ most popular rides, you might want to see just how quickly they sold out on Christmas Day!
Early in the morning, things were looking pretty good. Though the virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind filled up in SECONDS, Individual Lightning Lanes for that ride and all others remained open for quite a while.
Around 10:05AM, however, we saw that the Individual Lightning Lane for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train sold out.
At that time, the Individual Lightning Lanes for the other rides (Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and Avatar Flight of Passage) were still available from what we saw.
By about 11:09AM, the Individual Lightning Lanes sold out for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Hollywood Studios and Avatar Flight of Passage in Animal Kingdom.
But, shockingly, Individual Lightning Lanes for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind were still available at that time! By the time we checked at 1:44PM, all Individual Lightning Lanes for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind had sold out.
Are you surprised that it took quite a while for this ride to sell out? Maybe that $17 price tag kept folks at bay — $17 is what it cost to buy a single Individual Lightning Lane for Cosmic Rewind on Christmas Day. At around 1:55PM, we also saw that the Virtual Queue enrollment that began at 1PM was still available. Perhaps folks were waiting to see if they could get Virtual Queue access before forking out some extra cash for the chance to ride.
Keep in mind, this is what we saw based on availability when we refreshed our My Disney Experience app.
If you’re hoping to ride this attraction during the holidays, make sure you have a game plan for what you’re going to do. And discuss with your family at what point you’d be willing to buy an Individual Lightning Lane vs. take a chance on the virtual queue.
