Yesterday was a busy day in Magic Kingdom — it was the last day to ride Splash Mountain before it closed for retheming as Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
The closure is planned to last almost two years. But Disney is wasting no time! While Tiana’s Bayou Adventure isn’t scheduled to open until at least late 2024, that hasn’t stopped Disney from preparing for construction already.
Less than 24 hours after Splash Mountain hosted its last guests, the park is prepping for the lengthy construction period. We spotted these walls set up around the old standby entrance.
The wall also covers one half of this pass-through underneath a portion of the attraction. The walls say “Southern Dome Salt Company” which is themed to the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure attraction. When Disney announced the storyline for the ride, they mentioned that Tiana bought a salt dome for the employee-owned company called Tiana’s Foods.
We also noticed they are working on draining the water from the ride!
Over in Frontierland today, a MUCH different view than yesterday. The water has been drained and construction walls are up around Splash Mountain. pic.twitter.com/65jtFHLZUB

It’s a very different view than what we are used to seeing. Down this walkway towards the exit of the ride, we noticed some construction gear and other walls that have been put up.
One thing that IS still there is the Splash Mountain coin machine! If you want to grab one more souvenir before it disappears too, now is your chance. As we begin this long period of construction and retheming, stay tuned to our site for updates!
