You’re trying to decide what to pack, making sure your travel to and from your hotel is all sorted out, and everything in between. Plus, you’ve got to worry about what you can and can’t bring through security. Some of these things are obvious, like liquids, but most food you can bring through just fine. However, if you’re trying to fly with THIS item, it’s a no-go.
According to The Washington Post, after a traveler took to Twitter after his Jif peanut butter was confiscated by security, it’s official that peanut butter is considered a liquid.
I tried to take peanut butter through airport security.
TSA: Sorry, no liquids, gels, or aerosols.
Me: I want you to tell me which of those things you think peanut butter is.

Yes, even crunchy peanut butter. Other Twitter users jumped in and shared that they’ve had other condiments confiscated, while others explained that hummus has only been taken from them a few times.

TSA reacted to the tweet with an Instagram post standing by its decision that peanut butter is a liquid since according to its chemistry definition it “has no definite shape and takes a shape dictated by its container.”
TSA spokesperson R. Carter Langston also spoke to the Post and reminded us all that “we think about the liquids rule by its name, often forgetting that it also applies to aerosols, gels, creams and pastes.”

Another big issue could be the inconsistent enforcement of rules, as TSA agents at airports all across the country have the discretion to make their own decisions as to what is allowed and what may pose a threat. I had a can of cheese whiz confiscated once. So much for my cheese and crackers snack on the plane!
You also cannot bring nutella. I bought fancy sandwich spreads, like a nutella-type chocolate paste as a gift for my host and it was confiscated. Chapstick has always made it through, though.
We bought a loaf of bread and a jar of peanut butter on our way to MCO to go home, and security had my husband step out of line and make all the sandwiches before he could rejoin us.
