When it comes to dining in Magic Kingdom, things are…complicated.
Several of the quick service restaurant options leave much to be desired, and even a few of the table service restaurants are controversial. (People have certainly shared strong opinions about the prices at Cinderella’s Royal Table and Be Our Guest Restaurant in the past!) But one spot that tends to be a pretty good crowd-pleaser has recently added some new menu items, and I stopped by to try them out!
Atmosphere
The Plaza Restaurant is located at the end of Main Street, U.S.A., facing Cinderella Castle (on the side of the street nearest Tomorrowland). It’s one of Magic Kingdom’s smaller restaurants, so it can be challenging to get a reservation.
I checked in for my reservation through the My Disney Experience app, and once I was notified that my table was ready, I headed to the podium outside the restaurant. From there, a Cast Member seated me inside.
All the tables here are indoors, but there aren’t too many of them. They have a mixture of booths and regular tables, but you’ll probably be seated fairly close to another party while you dine. I was right next to the kitchen, so I had servers walking directly past my seat throughout the meal.
The atmosphere is very bright and charming, and if you sit by the windows, you’ll get a nice view of the castle — you might even be able to partially see the parade coming down the street!
So what’s new on the menu? Let’s talk about it!
Menu
Recently we reported here at DFB that Plaza Restaurant got some menu changes! For appetizers, the Chili, BLT Salad, and Seared Crab Cakes were removed, but Onion Rings and the House Salad were added.
When it comes to entrees, The Main Street Burger, Sirloin Steak Salad, and The Plaza Reuben were all taken off the menu, but Disney added the Pot Roast Stack, Crab Cake Sandwich, and Bacon Cheeseburger. There’s also a new Impossible Chili Burger, Chef’s Salad, Triple Decker Turkey Club Sandwich, and Chicken Waldorf Salad.
For desserts, we have quite a few new sweet treats available to check out! Specialty Milkshakes, Chocolate Layer Cake, and Cotton Candy Cheesecake have all joined the menu.
And if you’re interested in getting some adult beverages, they have wine, beer, and cider available on a separate menu.
With so many choices, it was seriously hard to decide!
Eats
I wanted to start off with one of the new appetizers, so I got the Onion Rings for $10. They’re served with a mild horseradish dipping sauce. But be warned — some items on the menu come with onion rings as a side, so make sure you’re not ordering WAY too many onion rings (not that I speak from experience or anything 😏).
These onion rings were actually top-notch, in my opinion! The batter was crispy and fried golden brown, and the onions inside didn’t slide out when I bit into them. The horseradish sauce had a tangy flavor with a little bit of a kick at the end. I nearly ate all of these in one go before I remembered that I had more food on the way!
My one slight complaint is that they were a smidge on the greasy side, but that’s kind of to be expected with deep-fried food.
After that, my server arrived with my two entrees! I ordered the Pot Roast Stack for $24 and the Crab Cake Sandwich for $26. Both are on the list of new menu items.
First up is the Crab Cake Sandwich, which is griddled and served with lettuce, tomato, and remoulade sauce on a potato roll. It comes with fries on the side, but you can actually upgrade your fries to the famous Plaza Loaded Fries for $3 extra. If you’re not interested in fries, you can swap out your side for another option from the menu.
We’ve talked about the Plaza Loaded Fries plenty of times before, but they’re topped with melted cheddar, bacon, green onion, and spicy sour cream. They are absolutely HEAVENLY. Cheesy, tangy from the onions and sour cream, and savory thanks to the bacon. I highly recommend them!
But now, let’s talk about the thing we’re REALLY here to try — the sandwich. The first thing I noticed about this is that it has what feels like an entire PINT of sauce! There was sauce underneath the top bun and on top of the bottom bun, which made the sandwich incredibly slippery to pick up.
The remoulade adds a little bit of spice that lingers on your tongue when you bite into the sandwich and the crab is tender and moist with a nice strong crab flavor. The tomato really brightens everything up a bit.
But ultimately, the excess of sauce kind of ruins this. There was SO much that it was hard to cut and hard to eat, and it made the lettuce and buns soggy after a minute. It was a very difficult entree overall.
Now on to my other entree, the Pot Roast Stack! It’s slow-roasted beef on thick-cut toast with mashed potatoes, caramelized onion gravy, and onion rings. And true to its name, everything is stacked on top of each other!
Let’s start from the bottom and work our way up here. My main problem with this was the toast — once again, I was face-to-face with some rather soggy bread. Since it’s topped with mashed potatoes, gravy, beef, and more, it gets quite mushy even though it’s toasted and that’s not exactly a pleasant texture.
However, the mashed potatoes were lovely. They were nice and buttery, and very thick and creamy. They were a perfect match for the roast, and I think they would be even more delicious served on the side of this dish instead of piled in a stack.
Now on to the meat itself! The roast is incredibly tender and pulls apart easily. It’s a little bit fatty, but not overwhelmingly so. It has a rich, meaty flavor and it’s not too salty.
The onion rings here are the same as the others — crispy and delicious! If you’re ordering this entree, you probably don’t also need the appetizer. 😉
And finally, it’s time for dessert! The Plaza Restaurant is known for having delicious ice cream treats and milkshakes, and there are several new options on the updated menu. I opted for the Chocolate Pecan Brownie Shake for $8.25. It’s made with hand-dipped chocolate ice cream blended with spiced pecans, brownies, and chocolate sauce.
It comes with a giant brownie chunk on top and lots of crumbled pecans and whipped cream. The brownie is really sweet and soft and a little bit sticky (it stuck to my teeth). The shake itself has a rich chocolate flavor that was almost dark chocolate-like. Between the nuts and the brownie pieces, the shake had a nice texture to it that wasn’t entirely smooth, and it wasn’t too thick because I could drink it through the straw easily.
It’s overall very sweet and rich, so it’s probably good to share with someone else. And as you get to the bottom, there are a LOT of nuts, so keep that in mind.
By the end of the meal I was completely stuffed and laden with leftovers to take home — so what’s the verdict?!
Overall
I really enjoy the Plaza Restaurant as a whole! The turn-of-the-century vibe is charming and the view of the castle and atmosphere is great. This is a good spot for those who want classic American eats, but the two new entrees I tried today were not the best items I’ve ever had on the menu. The Crab Cake Sandwich was entirely too difficult to eat, and I think the Pot Roast would’ve been best served in separate elements on a plate instead of all stacked together.
The onion rings are phenomenal, and I definitely recommend them either as a side or as an appetizer. The shake was also a big winner for me — especially if you like nuts, brownies, and chocolate.
Nosh or Not?
Eat on the corner of Main Street, U.S.A. if…
- You’re looking to get a nice break in the middle of your park day. What’s better than classic eats, a table with a castle view (and air conditioning!), and some ice cream? Not much! Your family will probably really enjoy this restaurant as a good midday break.
- You have some picky eaters in your party. This is one of the best Magic Kingdom restaurants if you have picky eaters in your group. The meals are all classic American fare, and most people could probably find something they’d like on the menu.
- You’re an ice cream fanatic. They have a really delicious dessert menu here, and many of the treats include ice cream! If you’re a fan, don’t miss out!
Keep on walking to other parts of the park if…
- You want a really unique meal experience. Magic Kingdom has multiple other options for people who want cool experiences — from waiters with funny jokes to character meals to restaurants inside of castles. This is one of the more ordinary spots.
- You want adventurous or fancy food. The menu here is pretty simple and pleases most, but it’s not exactly adventurous. If you want something special, you may want to look elsewhere.
- You’ve got a LOT to do during your Magic Kingdom day. Magic Kingdom is usually a packed park day for people and if you’re in a rush, I recommend skipping a table service meal and saving it for a different day.
That’s a wrap on my visit to Plaza Restaurant! I would definitely go back in the future, but I might pick different entrees. I’m certainly not passing up on those loaded fries, though!

I was a little surprised about the comments about the “soggy” bread on the roast beef stack. Beef (or turkey) open face on bread with gravy has been around for years. One expects the bread to soak up the flavors.

@Brenda I agree with you, but I also think that the potatoes make the bread redundant for this particular dish. Disney might want to start offering that remoulade on the side too, so that people can choose the amount for themselves.
