Disney World has many rules, many of which make perfect sense for a theme park.
However, Disney has some other rules that might take you completely by surprise!. Rules can change between the parks and Disney’s hotels, and we’re always here to help you navigate everything before your trip begins so you’re not caught off guard. Recently we saw a very interesting rule posted, and we’re…frankly kind of worried that it had to be written out.
While we were walking around EPCOT, we stopped by the Liquid Layer Splash Pad, which is a small area in EPCOT that has some misters to keep you cool on hot days and a splash pad for kiddos to play around. It’s a great place to get the wiggles out and let the parents relax for a bit. It’s located right between Mission: SPACE and Test Track.
Here we’ve got some rules posted at the splash pad that make perfect sense, and are good to be reminded about…
…but…um…there’s one rule that took us a little by SURPRISE?
Yep, see that second to last rule? “Do not use fountain if you are ill with diarrhea.” That’s really not an image we wanted to have in our minds today at EPCOT. It’s also very ironic to us that the rule is listed for the splash pad named “liquid layer” — just us? Okay, moving on.
And to be PERFECTLY clear, if you’re sick with diarrhea on your Disney World vacation, we humbly suggest that you stay isolated in your room in case it’s something that can be contagious to other people. And yes, please, ESPECIALLY don’t get in any bodies of water that other people swim in/interact with.
While getting sick before or during your Disney World trip is the worst (trust us, WE KNOW), it’s important to try your best to not spread germs to other people around the parks. If you find yourself sick on your trip and don’t feel well enough to leave your hotel room for a doctor’s visit, you can do virtual visits via AdventHealth, the official health partner of Disney World. If you need medication after your virtual visit, it can even be delivered to your Disney World hotel!
There’s also a brand new ER nearby the parks that’s easy to visit when worse comes to worst.
While missing out on Disney World fun is miserable, if your body needs rest, that’s what you should give it. As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney news.

Well, most rules like this only exist because it probably happened.

We had a daughter come down with the stomach flu the day we were leaving. We asked them to extend our room until we had to leave for the airport. They said they couldn’t do that. I informed the morning front desk clerk that the night person did indeed say they could and would. Day person said no. I said ok, send a bell person, we would just camp out in the common area of the club lounge as we were staying club level … wouldn’t you know a manager quickly called me back with a room available – no view but who cared. Put her to bed, closed the drapes, read a book in the lounge (she was 17), checked on her often.

Very neat.

Florida requires this notice on interactive water features. It’s not Disney’s choice to post the sign.
