Universal Orlando had a MASSIVE 2025 thanks to the opening of Epic Universe and its three corresponding hotels.
However, we’re not sure if there’s enough to carry the resort’s momentum through 2026.
The New “Shine” is Wearing Off
During 2025, Epic Universe and the resort expansion that came along with it were a “shiny new toy” in the Central Florida theme park landscape. There was heavy promotion, national commercials, a touring exhibition, and television specials. This year, that promotion has been dialed back considerably post-opening year. Speaking of which…
Spacing Out Visits
Many of the guests who did visit Universal Orlando for the first time — or the first time in a while — in 2025, thanks to Epic Universe’s opening, will likely space out their trips, not visiting again until there’s something “new” to see. That brings us to…
Waiting for Hollywood Drift
Universal is currently constructing a Fast & The Furious Hollywood Drift at the front of Universal Studios Hollywood, where Rip, Ride, Rockit formerly was. The coaster, which is a clone of the Universal Hollywood version that’s opening in the summer of 2026, will be a game-changer for the Florida coaster landscape when it opens next year, and many thrill-seeking guests are likely waiting for the new ride to debut.
Travel Costs are Skyrocketing
Of course, there are also factors outside of the Universal bubble that may cut down on 2026 visitors. Due to international diplomatic and economic factors, travel costs — airfare, hotels, gasoline — are increasing exponentially. At the same time, inflation is bringing up the cost of everyday goods, eating into the budgets of many families and even solo travelers. All of which together means that many simply aren’t able to travel as much in 2026. And those that do may look for a better “value”, which brings us to…
Disney’s Discounts
Disney is offering up a slew of discounts on 2026 trips, including discounts on tickets, “free” nights with certain packages, included Disney Dining Plans, and a litany of perks for various types of guests, including Disney Visa Cardholders, Disney+ Subscribers, DVC Members, as well as members of the armed forces, and residents of states including Florida and Georgia.
Universal had a huge 2025. Is that momentum carrying through 2026, or is the resort going to feel a lull before their new major addition opens in 2027? We’re eager to see. Stay tuned to DFB to find out.
