When it comes to planning a trip to Disney World, you’ve got it down to a science, right?
You’ve got all the flight details sorted. You know which hotel you’re going to stay at. And you’ve already got your plan of attack for how you’ll tackle all the Disney World eats. Sounds like you’re all set, right? Well, if you’re planning on hitting up EPCOT during one of its many festivals, there’s this new problem and it’s one that we’ve never experienced until now. So let’s talk about it!
As we were saying, if you’re anything like me, you probably thought you had Disney World down to a science. You knew exactly what to expect, especially when it came to EPCOT’s legendary festivals.
There were always food booths to hit up, live concerts to jam out to, and maybe a scavenger hunt to throw into the mix for a bit of extra fun.
But just when we thought we had our festival game perfected, Disney pulls a fast one on us. There’s a whole new problem we’ve never had to deal with before, and it’s completely shaking up our EPCOT festival experience. Let me explain…
Not Knowing What To Expect From the Next EPCOT Festivals
As we know, for years, EPCOT’s festivals have followed a familiar (but totally magical) formula. You’ve got the food booths, live concerts, and scavenger hunts for the kiddos (or the adults — I’m not judging). Even with the minor tweaks here and there, the basics stayed the same. Now, everything is changing thanks to EPCOT’s newest kid on the block: CommuniCore Hall and Plaza.
If you’ve been out of the loop (I get it, life gets busy), CommuniCore Hall and Plaza are EPCOT’s brand-new go-to festival hub, smack-dab in the heart of World Celebration. We’re talking an outdoor space for big concerts, intimate performances, and a full-blown festival building that’s housing all kinds of entertainment, food, and live shows.
On paper it sounds kinda awesome, but here’s the catch. With so many new elements being introduced, we’re now flying blind into what used to be a predictable festival experience.
What’s Going Down in CommuniCore?
Alright, let’s try to break this all down. As we said, CommuniCore Plaza is EPCOT’s new outdoor spot for concerts.
Think everything from the big festival staples like Disney on Broadway for the Festival of the Arts, Garden Rocks for Flower and Garden, Eat to the Beat for Food and Wine, and the truly iconic Candlelight Processional during the Festival of the Holidays. For example, one of the first big shows to hit the scene here has been ¡Celebración Encanto! — a sing-along event where you can belt out all your favorite Encanto songs.
Then there’s CommuniCore Hall, which should have been a game-changer, but at the moment, it isn’t quite that.
It was billed as the ultimate festival HQ. So, imagine a space for food, art, live music, a demonstration kitchen, a mixology bar, and even an exhibition and gallery space. The reality is that, at the moment, it’s giving that it’s just some extra building Disney threw together to hold a few displays, merch, and food booths. We’re really looking forward to seeing its potential fully realized for the future festivals.
Aside from that, CommuniCore Hall is also the new meet-and-greet spot for Mickey and Friends.
It’s where you can meet up with Mickey, Minnie, and Goofy!
With so many new things, it’s hard to know how to strategize for EPCOT festivals anymore. We used to have our festival plans all laid out, but now we’ve got to factor CommuniCore into the mix.
For example, will we be prioritizing the food booths or these new exhibition experiences? Do we need to plan for a sing-along or hit up the mixology bar first? So many questions, so few answers for now, anyway.
The Festival Timeline Shake-Up
As if navigating these new festival spaces wasn’t tricky enough, Disney’s already thrown a wrench into the timeline too. Typically, EPCOT’s Flower and Garden Festival runs straight through to the Fourth of July, which gives us months to enjoy the floral displays, garden-inspired eats, and live performances. But not this year. The 2024 Flower and Garden got the boot early, ending on May 27th to make way for the grand opening of CommuniCore.
That changing in the “standard” festival timeline definitely brought some panic for all of us who thought we had plenty of time to plan our visits. If you were like us hoping to squeeze in a Flower and Garden day in June, we were severely out of luck.
If nothing else, this last-minute change is proof that no matter how much you think you’ve got Disney World figured out, you’ve always gotta stay flexible. Disney loves to surprise us with unexpected announcements that can flip our plans on their heads. So, when you’re planning your next EPCOT festival visit, definitely have a backup plan ready to go.
So What Now?
Honestly, the opening of CommuniCore Hall and Plaza has been a wild ride. Truly we’re still entering uncharted territory, and it’s gonna take some time to figure out exactly how these new spaces will fit into our beloved EPCOT festivals, but I guess that’s just part of the fun, right?
Whether you’re a Disney pro who’s seen it all, or you’re gearing up for your first EPCOT adventure, just remember flexibility is your best friend. If you’re expecting the same-old-same-old from the festivals in 2024 and beyond, you might be in for a surprise.
So, grab your park maps, get ready to eat your way through all those festival food booths, and let’s see what this next chapter of EPCOT’s festivals has in store for us!

PLEASE tell me they are not moving the Candlelight Processional there! There are enough of the VERY cramp standing only shows to deal with, we do not need another one. It would totally take the “magical” feeling away from that show.
I wish they’d gone for more color in the Hall. That beige floor, those beige walls. They could have added large fabric panels of color with characters and/or information about the current festival to hang over the bland walls and be changed as needed. More large potted plants would help too. Nice to have a place in the A/C to sit with a snack and rest though.
The last time we visited communical hall there was plenty of seats. Now that the food festival has started many of those seats disappear just when we needed them and now they are filled with merchandise.
Just don’t understand this. From Moana to Festival Core, a flop. The fountains were better
