Disney shocked a LOT of fans this past week with the announcement that their new Monsters, Inc. Land would take over Muppets Courtyard in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Many guests have mixed feelings about the change, because not only did Disney announce that Muppets Courtyard would be going away, but they confirmed that the Muppets wouldn’t be leaving the park — they’re being transferred to a new Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster retheme! But what can we really expect from this retheme? Let’s dive into what we know so far.
In Disney’s official announcement, they shared that the Muppets would be teaming up with some of “music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival” in the coaster’s retheme. We’re taking this to mean that while the Muppets will be front and center starring in the ride, there will be cameos by popular artists as well.
What exactly d0es this mean? We’re still figuring that out, but the good news is that we also have concept art to pick apart and see if we can find more details!
Looking at the concept art first thing, we can see that the logo has changed a little bit for the ride. It’s named the same, but has more red to it than before and is formatted differently. This could mean that we might see the outdoor signage for this ride change a bit, or it may stay the same since it’s not a significant difference.
We also noticed that the ride vehicle pictured is VERY different from what the current Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster ride vehicle looks like, as it’s currently a limousine, as you can see below.
It appears that these (potentially) new ride vehicles will be MUCH more colorful to match the Electric Mayhem’s color palette, and it looks like Dr. Teeth’s keyboard is even built INTO the ride vehicle — now THAT would be cool to see! (And check out that license plate!)
Lastly, let’s take a look at WHO is on board, which may give us a clue as to what Muppets we’ll see in the attraction. We’ve certainly got Dr. Teeth and the rest of the Electric Mayhem, made up of Animal, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot, and Lips, but we’ve also got Kermit and Miss Piggy. Those are the only Muppets pictured though, so it has us wondering if other favorites like Fozzy, Beeker, Dr. Honeydew, the Swedish Chef, and more will be making any appearances.
Being that the ride will now take place at a music festival, it is possible we could see other Muppets throughout the queue or the actual ride itself. We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all the latest news, so stay tuned to DFB!

My daughter called this worst news ever

As I can’t take the inversions on Rockin Roller Coaster, though I love the Muppets, I probably won’t go on the ride. So I’m hoping Disney takes up the suggestion I heard from another YouTuber to move MuppetVision 3D to the theatre next to the Imagination Pavilion. That theatre is already set up for 3D and the Muppets are nothing if not imaginative. They could even move most of the animatronics and other set pieces to that theatre, so the show will lose none of it’s charm.

I agree with your daughter – UGH, UGH, UGH

The fountain needs to be at the coaster entrance.
Stephanie Routh says
I would have to say that it’s the Electric Mayhem turn to rock Rock ‘N’ Roller Coaster. maybe they would like to perform their concert over at the American Gardens Theater at Epcot
Todd says
I don’t see anything different about the vehicles. Look closely at the grill, headlights and lines along the hood. They are the same. Disney isn’t going to spend the money to replace them. They will just get a colorful vinyl wrap.
Steve says
Easily one of the best thrill attractions at DW now ruined by yet another IP. They could have easily rethemed this to be like a new space mountain in complete darkness.
And when you think of the age of kids that watch the muppets do you think of upside down rollercoasters.
Don says
Love the muppets but, this is not like a little kids ride. The muppets ride was nostalgic but the technology outdated If u wasted to redo it and bring it into the 21 century , Disney would be up to the challenge , but they took the easy way out again. You can not replace Arrowsmith with the muppets ! ! !
William Flowers says
Keep doing away with all the tried and true and replacing with stupid stuff. First splash mountain, now Muppets, I can’t ride roller coasters, but grew up with Muppets. So now there’s nothing!!!!!
Randi Briggs says
Yeah, I love Rockin’ Roller Coaster. Why can’t they give the Muppets a new attraction? It’s not like they have a shortage of space.
Tom Welsh says
Muppets – – YES
Roller Coasters – – -NO!
I am disappointed with this change.
Robin L Murray says
This is not a change for the better . I get people are upset about the Muppets but can’t we find a better home than ruining Rock and Roller coaster. Give them something in Launch Bay, that’s a pretty dead area.
David R Bauer says
Don’t go by the colorful pictures they show us just look at what they showed us what Epcot was going to look like. I feel a big disappointment is on the way. Iger needs to go and the sooner the better.
Missy S says
I am not sure how this is going to be accepted ?? I can’t wrap my head around the muppets on the “Coaster “.
But it should be interesting !! Little kids won’t go on because it is a scary (?) coaster and the teens + will call it a “for babies ride” !!
Very interesting change or is this an April Fools ploy !!!??
NENolan says
Not a huge coaster fan but I think it’s a good idea. Unfortunately, for someone like me who grew up with the Muppets, it’s not something I can ride anymore. I wish they would at least move the 3D film somewhere else.
Sherlyn R Huffman says
I just dont understand why they keep adding coasters.
Not everyone likes or will ride them. I have blood pressure
issues and my bf has heart issues. Coasters are NOT good
rides for either!
Essie says
This is very upsetting; I can’t go on coasters anymore for medical reasons. I loved going on coasters (I even went on ex Everest) but I love Muppets 3d and will miss it terribly. When I get back to Disney World (if I go back, there are so many things that I loved, that are being lost).
