When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle of the road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well.
We recently stopped by Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC at Disney Springs to see what was cookin’, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here!
Atmosphere
Erin McKenna’s Bakery NYC specializes in allergy-friendly, vegan baked goods. Erin McKenna is the founder of BabyCakes NYC, and this Disney Springs location is home to both sweet and savory options.
According to the website, Erin McKenna’s focuses on food for those with “gluten, dairy, egg and soy sensitivities” and their menu advises that everything is also kosher. Since this is a bakery, you won’t find much seating here, but you’ll find plenty of tasty treats to go!
But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?!
Menu
This menu is FULL of gluten-free, vegan, and allergy-friendly treats and sweets. You’ll find cupcakes, crumb cakes, regular cakes, cookies, donuts, and even some savory items like bagels and cream cheese.
And now, onto the main event — the food!
Eats
We grabbed a few different goodies on our visit here, starting with the Pizza Cookie. This is a giant chocolate chip cookie “crust” topped with vibrant red frosting “sauce” and colorful candy “toppings” that look just like pepperoni, olives, and cheese. This is part of a line, at Erin McKenna’s, being offered this summer, where all of the bakery items look like savory foods — and they are all very cute.
There’s a lot of frosting on this cookie, and because of that, it is very, very sweet. One thing we’ve noticed about dairy (and thus, butter) free baked goods is that they tend to be overly sweet, and that was the case here. The cookie itself was good, but it was not super crispy, likely because of all the frosting on top.
Of course, we also had to grab the Taco Cookie. Despite the name, there are no tacos here! A folded chocolate chip cookie “shell” is filled with rich chocolate frosting “meat,” yellow frosting “cheese,” green candy “lettuce”, and red candy “tomatoes.”
It was filled with brownie, which we’re certainly not mad about, and the brownie inside also had a really good texture. It was chocolatey; the cookie was chocolatey — but it was not super crispy because it had been sitting with all those toppings on it. HOWEVER, it was remarkably tasty.
This is really, really, really sweet, which is something that often happens with gluten- and dairy-free baked goods, so there was some chocolate flavor here from the brownie and the chocolate frosting on the bottom, but otherwise this is just a whole lot of sweet. We definitely could not eat this in one sitting, so it may be something you want to split with someone else, or you may want to have a few bites and then take it back to your room.
The Cupcake Slider was our next pick, which looks like an adorable little burger slider. It features fluffy vanilla cupcake “buns” layered with colorful frosting that perfectly mimics burger toppings – green “lettuce,” yellow “cheese,” chocolate “patty”, and red “tomato.”
We love this as people who frequently turn our regular cupcakes into cupcake sandwiches, because that’s exactly what it is. It’s a cupcake that has been halved with the frosting in the middle, but it is all made to look like a little cheeseburger. So, it’s all buttercream again. There’s no candy or anything in there, but there are buttercream sesame seeds on the top, and then there’s a buttercream patty and cheese and lettuce, and tomato. This definitely gets points for being cute! The cake is more dense than we would typically appreciate, but, texturally, it’s a good version for something that is both vegan and gluten-free.
We love this take on Dessert Fries — golden vanilla cake sticks dusted with cinnamon sugar served with sweet berry dipping sauce for “ketchup.”
This is cute. It is the same cake as the cupcake slider, but it is rolled in that delicious cinnamon sugar. We enjoyed this one quite a bit because texturally, everything else felt kind of dry and crumbly, and here you’ve got the dip of the strawberry jam to help make things moister. We loved that this was a large portion size, and the sweet berry dipping sauce was tangy and sweet!
The Dessert Faux Dogs are vanilla cake “buns” filled with rich buttercream frosting, “hot dogs,” and topped with colorful yellow and red frosting that looks just like mustard and ketchup.
This is a cake made to look like a hot dog bun with frosting inside that mimics a hot dog and then frosting toppings on top. So again, a lot of frosting with just some cake. Luckily, the cake is tasty, and it’s texturally firmer than we typically enjoy for a cake — almost like a pound cake, which in this case is a good thing as it mimics a hot dog bun and holds all of the frosting toppings. This is, again, really cute, a novelty item, and if you’re interested in that kind of novelty item, then this is worth it. If you are not a vegan or gluten-free eater, there are definitely better treats to be had around Disney Springs.
Next up, we tried the Twinkie Dog — a Corn Dog on a Stick! A golden-battered “corn dog” is filled with signature vanilla cake cream, and of course, put on a stick.
This is essentially a Twinkie on a stick designed to look like a corn dog — which is another fun idea. Again, though, this is more cake — just in a twinkie shape — filled with buttercream inside. It’s the same cake that is in the hot dog, and the cupcake slider, just denser and less moist. It’s a good version with the dietary restrictions here. There was definitely more cake than butter cream here. So if you want one of these treats and want less frosting, this is the best one to pick.
You can also pick up a Bakery Sink — it’s like a kitchen sink, but with five to six of yesterday’s unsold baked goods in it.
MAN! That’s a lot of treats. So, what’s the verdict?
Nosh or Not
